Luke couldn’t help but stare for a moment, dumbfounded. This was not at all what he’d expected when he’d come back to his rooms on Coruscant-- and even less expected was her answer.
Say yes, just say yes. Only an idiot would say no. Some part of his brain kept telling him-- it seemed to be the only part that was working, and yet... He quickly turned his head and averted his eyes.
“Inara-- I think there must be some kind of mistake... I didn’t--” But if he hadn’t, then who would have? And who would know his schedule? Have access to his rooms? He could think of half a dozen people-- Rogue Squadron included -- who might have motive or access but not both. Wedge certainly wouldn’t have-- and while Han might joke and be tempted, Han had to answer to Leia and that generally stopped him from taking pranks on his farmboy brother-in-law too far which meant that there wasn’t anyone left.
No, that wasn’t true-- there was definitely someone who would think to take advantage of Luke’s confidence, of his fondness for the companion, who would know where his rooms were, when they’d be occupied and, most certainly, would know how to get into them without arousing suspicion.
“I think this is the doing of a friend of mine-- mustache, opera cape, very smooth. He probably thinks he was doing me a favor. I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to waste your time.”
As much as that part of his brain had been screaming at him to say yes, he wouldn’t-- not under false pretenses... and still, that didn’t mean it didn’t hurt. For a moment-- just for a moment -- he would have liked to use his body for something other than making war.
“At least let me make you dinner or something before you go. I always make too much for one person anyway.” It was the least he could do.
