I couldn't resist.
I admit that in the past I’ve been a nasty...
Finally got this year’s Spooky Day costume picked out for my simself!
(in real life I’ll be wearing last year’s costume again, haha)
“No, oh no... I’m too late,” Mara whispered, biting back a sob. Upon seeing Lucius’ appearance, even her concern for James and Amber was briefly forgotten “Oh, Lu, what did you do? Why do you have horns?”
“I did what I had to do,” came his terse reply. “I think he’s still alive, barely--can you turn him?”
“No!” Amber shouted fiercely. “He would hate that! Stay away from him!”
Mara closed her eyes and drew a deep breath. “She’s right. I would not place that burden on him.” She fell silent and listened. “His heart is beating so slowly.. He--he will be gone, soon.”
“Let her go, Callisto. Unless you want to die the same way Vlad did,” Lucius said calmly, hoping to goad the vampire into making a mistake.
Callisto merely rolled her eyes. “I have no doubt you’re going to kill me,” she told him before she smiled once more. “But look at all the fun I’ve had. I had no idea your nosy little wife would taste so sweet.”
“Is he dead?” Lucius asked, indicating James’ limp form.
“Close enough. It’s his fault, really. Thought he needed to protect this one. You should be thanking me, from what I hear.”
“Did anybody here order a badass little Lady Knight?” Caleb Garner asked as he entered James’ home with Joey draped across his shoulders, giggling madly.
Xavier ran to join his best friend. “Joey! You look so cool!”
“Your outfit looks familiar,” Amber told Joey. “Who are you?”
“Alanna! She disguises herself as a boy and becomes a knight and she’s my favorite character! I’m going to be just like her!”
“I’ve been hit in the head with wooden swords a lot lately,” Caleb added. “My wife helped her make the costume and it’s been hard to convince her to wear real clothes ever since.”
“Well, you guys both look amazing,” Amber told them. “Go on before you’re late to school!”
If only I knew what I know today I would hold you in my arms I would take the pain away Thank you for all you've done Forgive all your mistakes There's nothing I wouldn't do To hear your voice again Sometimes I wanna call you but I know you won't be there
Some days I feel broke inside but I won't admit Sometimes I just wanna hide cause it's you I miss And it's so hard to say goodbye when it comes to this
“Ooh, I like that one!”
“Eh, I don’t know,” Lucius hedged. “I’m not a big fan of craftsman-style.”
From her position at the computer, Mara sighed. “Amber, would you mind grabbing my phone off the kitchen counter while I bookmark these? I’ll call the realtor and set up a time to see some of these in person.”
“Sure!”
Once Amber was out of earshot, Mara hissed at Lucius, “Stop being a dick. You’ve had something negative to say about every house we’ve looked at.”
“What? I don’t like craftsman. Plus you keep picking all of these ridiculously-bright houses. I’m not living in a yellow house.”
“Do you even hear yourself right now? You do know that you can paint stuff, right? Besides, it’s her turn to pick out a house. Your last house was beautiful but the decor had ‘Lucius’ written all over it. She wants a house full of sunshine and daisies and bright colors.”
“Yeah, but she liked--”
Mara turned off the computer screen and lowered her head. “Lucius, look. You’re going to have a hundred homes in a hundred lifetimes, and then some. She’s not. Have a nice cheerful human house for a few minutes. I promise it won’t hurt you.”
“You’re right,” he said with a sigh, putting a hand on her back. “I’m sorry. I just... I’m so grouchy lately. I hate it.”
“Well, hopefully Gyellse and Alaric can help you regain some of your humanity soon. Before I strangle you.”
“How do I look?” Xavier asked the following morning.
“I haven’t had my coffee yet,” James yawned, “But I’m pretty sure it’s not Halloween. Why are you dressed like Captain America?”
“Today is Book Parade Day at school,” Amber supplied as she joined James at the counter. “The kids dress as their favorite book character and, well, parade around the school. Joey and her dad are on the way to take him to school.”
“Ah, I see. You look amazing, Cap.”
“Thanks! Mom said I can wear it again for Halloween if I want!”
