Amberlake made their debut not too long ago with I’ll Be Yours, pairing their penchant for serene electronica and their affinity for pop to create a vast and expansive alt pop beauty named I’ll Be Yours, dipped in fine nuances and much expressive grace. The London-based duo now follow it up with OH MY GOD, of which they say: “We first came up with the idea for OH MY GOD when we were talking about past relationships and break ups. We wanted to capture that OMG moment when you’re about to break up with someone and the sudden realisation hits you that ‘this is it’ and there’s no going back". It’s now apparent that I’ll Be Yours was no lucky first strike. OH MY GOD is another impeccable electronica and pop gem, with a lustrous glimmering soundscape and crystalline enchanting vocals. It’s like Oh Wonder, BROODS, and XYLØ all rolled up into one sublime electro-pop song. No doubt Amberlake will be turning more heads and adding to their growing fanbase in droves this year. New duo Amberlake is described as having one hand dipped into the pop world, the other in serene electronica. Together, the pair make an enthralling entrance with their quietly euphoric, vast and expansive alt-pop on I’ll Be Yours. It’s a deceptively tranquil song, whose gently rippling tides tug on the heart with tender force. Amberlake treats songwriting as a therapy session, using the process to work through different emotions before laying them down on wax. I’ll Be Yours is a graceful and elegant pop song that builds slowly towards an exhilarating crescendo with nuanced detail. It’s a rush of warmth that explores devotion, bringing us the soothing comforts of a sweet embrace with its soft glow. The new band says: “‘I’ll Be Yours’ came to our minds as something we felt towards the people closest to us and how we would stand by their side through thick and thin.” Amberlake met a year or two ago. Nick had been a touring musician for the past decade, performing with GRAMMY-winnign acts like Ed Sheeran, The Ting Tings, and The Backstreet Boys, as well as writing for Jess Glynne, Nina Nesbitt, and AlunaGeorge. Meanwhile, Emma has also been making a name for herself solo, busking on the streets of her hometown in Devon, after which she moved to London to pursue her career in music. The band’s name is a reference to the Chinese takeaway Nick’s granddad opened when he moved to the UK, but it’s also a fitting representation of the pair’s blissfully enchanting tunes.
