Muscles once shredded and knotted back together with totem magic sent up painful complaints about being used. “M’fine,” Techno managed. He squeezed his eyes together and then breathed out slowly and deliberately, trying to relax his shoulders. “Slept wrong, messed up my neck I think. And I’ve got— after-images.”

“Hmm, that again,” his partner said. Phil sat up and situated his shoulders, shifting so his wings no longer covered the bed. “You keep fuckin’ doin’ that, mate.”

Techno flopped a hand at him, not opening his eyes. “It seemed like a good idea at the time, how was I supposed to know that sleepin’ curled into a pretzel was gonna mess up an’ give me totem side effects? I’m in the peak of condition and don’t experience any side effects from any battles I won with small side repercussions, Phil.”
