I have been thinking about giving new content to this blog, so here are some ideas I would like your opinion on.

Creating a “My Review and Opinion” section. Mainly to share my opinions and discuss last published issues and other DC Comics related stuff like films, games etc.

Creating a “Q&A” night. Can be about anything really. We could talk about comics, characters, Jason’s amazing thighs, Dick’s Jim and Juan or simply ourselves.

Open a Discord account. I’m quite a novice when it comes to using discord but I find the functionality of this app perfect to interact with people. That would not mean I would stop publishing on tumblr.

Open a Rason-Rodd Instagram to share the content of this blog on another platform.

Reopen my requests box once a month. So that I can write what you guys want. Can be fanfics, one shots, headcanons or even ship requests (which I haven’t done in a while)

And finally, create my own Red Hood and the Outlaws story. I can’t really draw so it would only be a fan fiction (unless if an ambitious artist want to join which would be amazing) that I would publish regularly with Jason as main character of course and a new team of outlaws and an original story. Cause if you want a thing done well, do it yourself , right?

Evening folks and you know theres something thats been on my mind since I saw Tangled before ever after, and that was what binding method was used to create the journal. Given first appearances I thought it was long stitch but I was thrown off by the crosses in the spine of the book. I kept wondering how I could create a long stitch using crosses but realised that it couldn't be possible as the other signatures needed to be secured into the cover.Then I had a brain wave perhaps the key was mixed media. The idea being that I would use two binding methods case and long stitch. I used case binding to create the signatures which were totalled at 20 for my first book and contained 6 folded pages, the spine was left un glued to accompany the long stitching process. The second stage was securing the text block into the cover which was brown leather that had its backing coloured with dark brown acrylics to harmonise with the leathers colour. The block was secured with thick cotton thread, and stitched it in from the first signature to the middle and bottom and back again to create the cross long stitch effect. 

Said thread was painted with acrylic for extra strength to avoid breaking the thread if caught on something.

This was a rather ambitious undertaking and so I created several prototypes to refine the idea before creating the final piece, so as not to, waste leather materials.I created two of these books one for a crossover story that I shall illustrate and the second for my own use in sketching and painting. The final products work like a long stitched  book when opened flat out and I used white parchment paper as it responds well to water colour paints and to the journal from the series. 

I’m rather pleased with this and it shows the impossible of combining binding methods and in quoting season one of The Flash “ Impossible is just another Tuesday for us.”

So this weekend I’m going to try to do something that isn’t either being at the farm or being here at home glued to my computer. I’ve had an impressive wordcount this autumn (though as it’s all spread through different documents I got no way to track it, which is a shame; I just did a rough tally of the different google docs I’ve been working in that I know are since October and there’s about 75,000 words in there [for the record, the doc with all the daredevil stuff is over 10k! that snippet is just a beginning!]) and that’s great and all, but. 

I have been wanting to do some ambitious silkscreening project since the class I took on silkscreening-- anyone remember, way back when, was I even on Tumblr? yes I was, when I fell down the stairs and ended my derby career and was in a boot for eight weeks? That’d be three years ago now I think, actually just about to the week. Anyhow. Those stairs were in the basement of the book arts center. I was at a silkscreening class. Since then I’ve been wanting to make a silkscreened kids’ book, and i have been designing it and the major hangup has been that I don’t know what it should be *about*. 

And I finally came up with a concept a few weeks ago, but I haven’t made any progress beyond that. So I finally got pushed over the edge when my sister told me the niece I spent spring and summer babysitting only needs crayons for Christmas, but maybe I could get her paper and coloring books too. And I thought---- !!! There’s my trial run! A coloring book! Hand-draw the concept art, make some photocopies (hell, scan it, and then print as many copies as I want, I have a never-much-used laser printer in my house), and tweak the art and layout that way. 

Then I can in January get into the book arts center and use their exposure unit to burn my own screens (I have bought screens, like a loser) and actually do the printing at my leisure at home. Since I’ve amassed everything I need except the exposure unit, which is more than I care to attempt to build on my own. (Theirs involves a vaccuum table. It’s real nice. It’s jankety as fuck, but it’s real nice effectively once you coax it along. Even if it is in a terrifying basement with no railings on any of the stairs.)

The only remaining obstacle is that I last was serious about drawing in the late 90s. But I can still do pretty good at objects. And I no longer own any serious drawing equipment but fuck, a Sharpie is what I need anyway.

I made a mistake somewhere

For fmp I'm doing essentially two production bibles for an adaptation of a book (finally got all my notes for that done yesterday) that's going to be just an animated and a comic. Wrote out the rough script for the comic this morning and thumbnailing now and it looks like it's at something like 80-90 pages long....!?!? Uhm. Still feeling confident I can get this done if it's done with just a few spot colors, if any colors at all.
