Engine Rebuild :And on the last day...

this is my jeep. this is my jeep next to my apartment. this happened under her own power.

and now for some honest emotiONAL EXPRESSION ITS FINALLY FUCKING RUNNING!

Issues: Cracked timing cover, replaced with new, mis-machined one. That stripped the Cam and Distributor gears, which cause many failed attempts at cranking before finding the problem. Replaced with 1974 AMC original cover, which resolved the issue. Piston number 6 decided to explode, so that was a thing! And, to add a final fuck you, yesterday ALL the hoses decided that they wanted to be pitchers, and started pouring coolant everywhere. But she runs, has stopped leaking, and I have missed her so

Engine Rebuild: That’s enough!

Ok, its back together! And running nice. But, muck like someone getting out of an abusive relationship, I’m not ready to trust yet.

Engine Rebuild Day 6,842

This is a frustrating process.

There was a stubborn bolt in the oil pump section of the timing cover, so stubborn in fact that a pair of vice-grips and several sacrifices to Tezcatlipoca were unable to remove it. So, in drilling out the whole bolt, turning it into fine ribbons of steely foot-death, the bolt hole cracked, requiring total replacement of 4 days of work. this happened last Thursday. I don't much remember what happened after the break, but everything went red for a couple days.

But all has been righted. New timing cover came, oil pump went back together without incident and, as you can see, the paint has been mostly finished.

Something very exciting is going to start today. Having finished for the semester, Jimblings is now going to rebuild an engine, pictures to follow over the next week or two.
