Character Introduction #2: Lolf
The Faithful Beast
From: Twilight Princess (and Link’s Crossbow training, of course)
Description:
Is a wolf with the same markings as in-game
Somewhere between 2’ 4” and 2’ 7” at the shoulders
Wears his signature earrings and has his mane pulled back in a wolf-tail ponytail (with a special hair tie)
The shackle is still on him, but is now quite rusted; the fur on his paw with it on is thin where it has chafed against his skin
Basic Information:
22 years old
Started first adventure at 17, lasted two years; he joined Wild for his adventure at 21, and stayed in that era for a year
Has been stuck in wolf form since the day he stumbled into Wild’s era
His wolf form is actually part dog, as wolves don’t bark and even the tame ones don’t like new people, but he does tolerate them more; still more wolf than dog, though
Functionally a wolf(dog) with the memories of a Hylian; the transformation is more than just physical
Personality Overview:
The family dog (for now)
Acts like a tame wolf/wolfdog would for the most part; he’s been stuck as a wolf for long enough to have given up on trying to act like a human
Like practically all Links, he always gets back up and keeps going after a setback
Quite stubborn
Autistic— this is actually quite relevant for him, because it just fits in with the themes of TP so well; he’s always an outcast that doesn’t quite fit in anywhere, not even in his home town, as much as he loves the place
Socially inept; can’t read most people correctly for the life of him
Self-conscious— seriously, he got judged so much on his adventure by his ghostly mentor and Midna
He has proved them wrong quite a few times, so it’s not like his ego is shattered by that, but it has led to him having high standards and being quick to blame himself, even if he bounces back fast most of the time
Midna roasting him did shift to friendly banter by the end of his time with her, and the Hero’s Shade did grow proud of him by the end, but it still left a mark (not as large as the one left when she…)
Like a caring older brother— was one to the kids in his village
Has a bit of a sharp tongue from his time with Midna; just can’t, well, use it at the moment
Likes Ordon pumpkin soup and animals (he’s a goat person)
Dislikes loud noises and mirrors (for more reasons than one, actually)
Fighting Style:
Circles around opponents then lunges at them, like the wolves in BotW/TotK
Goes for the throat (or spinal cord)
Fairly Agile and adaptive
Magic:
Has a little bit of control over Twili magic
That’s it.
Other Skills:
Best sense of smell and hearing in the chain
Pretty sneaky, but his shackle often gives him away
One of the better archers and swordfighters when he isn’t a wolf
Great hunter and herder
I know I said he was from Link's Crossbow Training as well, but to be honest, I've never played or watched much of the game, so basically the only thing from that is 1) He has a crossbow in his adventure bag (which is MIA at the moment), and 2) he has used it before and quite frequently at that lol.
Here's the story of his nickname by the way:
Wild named him Wolf Link as he only knew three proper noun names at the time (those being Hyrule, the King whose name he could never hope to pronounce, and his own), and also sensing that they had a shared spirit (not that they realize this).
When Wild shares the story of his wolf friend to Zelda and Purah, the two end up brainstorming other names. Purah comes up with Wink and Lupie, Zelda Lolf and Loofah. [I had a Tumbler pole set up to decide, but I have since realized that I can’t take the name “Wink” seriously—at least not in conjunction with Link—so Lolf it is.]
