Summary: 3. I just told you I liked you but now I’m shy and say “never mind, forget it” and why are you looking at me like that? (Prompt)
Notes: A anon requested this on Tumblr (for a prompt game). This took a couple of days, but here it is. This takes place after my other two fics 'Comfort' and 'Swirling Emotions'. It takes inspiration from 'Too Close'. Somethings are the same, some things are def not. I hope whoever reads this enjoys it. Also, the title of this is bad, but if anyone has any better suggestions, feel free to comment down below. (Also I’ve been promoting the hell out of this on amedot-is-awesome and I’m so sorry for the spam of it)
They were sitting on the edge on top of the hill where the lighthouse sat, the hill that overlooked the Crystal Temple. Sun was setting. It was just the two of them, no other gems or humans in sight.
“Sooo, why did you take me here?” Peridot asked.
“I dunno. Guess I just wanted to show you how pretty the view is up from here when the sun’s setting,” Amethyst answered.
“It is intriguing,” Peridot intoned, staring off.
“Then I was right to take ya up here,” Amethyst grinned.
Peridot looked over and slightly smiled, “Yea.”
“Soooo.. I never asked but… how were things with us on Homeworld?” Amethyst asked, not really knowing what to talk about.
“Boring.”
“Thought ya would’ve been hanging out with water w- er I mean Lapis,” Amethyst pointed out.
“She took longer to reform then I did.. and when she came back, I felt.. conflicted..,” Peridot stammered.
“Conflicted?” Amethyst questioned.
“Well.. She was the reason why I was ‘depressed’ for a long time. She fled, after I was so emotionally honest with her! She took all my stuff into space, and just.. left.. me.. but I.. really missed her,” Peridot explained why she felt conflicted.
“That’s understandable.. I guess,” Amethyst opined. Before, she didn’t like Lapis. She didn’t like that she broke Peridot’s heart and didn’t care. Now, she was okay with her, just over protective of Peridot.
“So how was being on Homeworld for the first time?” Peridot asked, genuinely curious. She knew Amethyst was interested in learning about Homeworld.
“Crazy.”
“Crazy?”
“I mean…it’s just that.. I’ve never been to Homeworld before. It was just shocking.. There were thousands of gems, maybe even a million! I dunno. Heck, there were even era one Peridots! Butttt… They weren’t as cool as you are,” Amethyst rambled. Peridot’s cheeks turned blue. “We even saw White Diamond! And her Pearl! Man, they were so creepy!”
“Yea..”
“So, how’d you like your first wedding?” Amethyst asked.
“It was fun, until the diamonds crashed, but.. it was beautiful. They really love each other, a lot,” Peridot gushed, twiddling her fingers. “It.. amazes.. me. The concept of love, and how earthlings celebrate it.”
“Yeah. Ruby and Sapphire really love each other.”
“The concept of love.. really is.. interesting.. it’s intriguing.. and beautiful,” Peridot smiled. “On homeworld.. We weren’t taught what romance and love are.”
“Of course you weren’t! Those guys hate happiness! They hate love, and they hate romance!”
After a long moment of silence, Peridot finally broke it. “..Have you ever loved anyone else?” Peridot asked.
“Well - I love you guys. You guys are m’a family.”
“Amethyst, I meant a romantic attraction for someone else.”
“Oh. Well.. Um.. I’ve kissed others. I’ve even kissed humans. I’ve done stuff, I’ve experimented. I’ve even had relationships, buttt, they weren’t exactly long term,” Amethyst admitted.
“You’ve.. kissed someone?” Peridot asked.
“Yep. Jealous?” Amethyst teased. Peridot’s lips clenched, posture slumping, cheeks turning blue. “Per, relax, I was joking.”
“Ahahaha,” Peridot fibbed, trying to fake laugh, but noticeably failing.
“Peri.. you’re really bad at lying,” Amethyst pointed out the obvious. She wrapped her arm around Peri, “So tell me.. what’s up.”
“I-I don’t know,” Peridot stuttered. “How do you describe the feeling of having romantic feelings for someone else?”
“Well.. for me.. it’s like.. my chest’s pounding, or it’s tingly. And when I’m around them.. I just can’t stop smiling. And when I see them all I have is the urge just to pick h-them up and spin them around, or hug them, or hold their hand, or even kiss them. And when we touch, even just a brush, I shiver. Tremble - actually,” Amethyst rambled. Her eyes were sparkling, her cheeks were a dark deep purple, and her lips were parted. “I guess.. that’s how I feel about you.”
Peridot was speechless. She tried to speak but she couldn’t. She just found herself, trembling, speechless, blushing, and staring at Amethyst. Amethyst liked her? Of all gems? Why her? What was so special about her?
Amethyst jerked back, now getting shy that Peridot wasn’t responding. Was she weirded out? Did she not feel the same way? Did she just make a major mistake and mess up? Was it too soon? “Urgh, I-just-nevermind..forget it.. forget I ever said anything.” She got up, and started to walk away. Peridot got up too, and grabbed Amethyst’s hand. Peridot was just staring, eyes wide and sparkling, lips parted, cheeks blue. “Per.. why are you looking at me like that? Why are you stopping me?”
“I like you too..,” Peridot gushed, weakly.
“Ya do?” Amethyst asked, kind of shocked, but smiling.
“Yeah. I thought it was pretty obvious!” Peridot responded.
“Why would you hold a romantic attraction towards me though?” Peridot asked.
Amethyst face-palmed, “’Cause. You’re funny. You’re cute. You’re smart. You’re honest. You’re literally my closest friend!” She paused. “But.. why would you like me? I came out.. wrong.”
“You may have not been.. well made.. but.. you have very attracting features, two being your personality, and your appearance,” Peridot explained.
“Heh. Thanks dork,” Amethyst smiled, still blushing, and ignoring Peridot’s comment about her not being well made.
Amethyst cupped Peridot’s cheek, while the other hand was holding Peridot’s hand. They were just blushing, smiling, and staring at each other. “So Peri.. are ya familiar with the concept of kissing?”
“Yea.”
“Can I introduce you to it?” Amethyst asked.
“Of course.”
Amethyst gently pulled Peridot closer, then leaning in and gently and slowly placing her lips on Peridot’s. She then wrapped her arms around Peridot’s shoulder, while Peridot wrapped her arms around Amethyst’s waist. They held the kiss for a minute, and then let go. Peridot’s eyes were big and wide, sparkling, pupils enlarged, her cheeks were blue, and her mouth was open. “Hehe.. Not bad for your first time, Per.”
“Holy smokes. Y-yeah,” Peridot stammered. She felt so many new feelings, but she didn’t know what they were. She could feel her chest pounding, her stomach felt like butterflies were swirling.
Amethyst laid down on the grass, staring up at the sky. Peridot joined her by laying down too. Amethyst smiled and then grabbed Peridot’s hand, holding onto it. “Is this okay?”
“Yes.” Peridot held onto her hand. To her, it was unbelievable of how fast things went by, and how she kissed the gem she longed to be with and the gem she admired. She knew it was real, but it felt like a dream to her. Then, they just laid there. Not questioning anything. Just hand holding, blushing, smiling, and enjoying being together, while staring at the sky.

Hello!! A few years back I started writing a human!gems Amedot marching band and I didn't update, but I'm actually back to finish the series! Some of you may remember, and some may not but regardless, I'd appreciate the read! There are currently 15 chapters, the 15th was posted on Monday! I would love the support and feedback!
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the
Organization for Transformative Works
New chapter is finally up! I added a lot to this chapter than what it originally was. College and the SU movie got me fucked up. But it's here now! Go give it a read!
Even though it was night time, Peridot decided to get some fresh air. She would usually be in the bathroom, but felt cramped and depressing. She sat on the shore of the beach, staring off into the night, thinking about Lapis Lazuli. Lapis. It stung. Everytime she thought about her, it just stung, badly. She couldn’t help it though. She heard someone shuffling through the sand, she turned it around to find it was Amethyst.
“Oh.. You still miss her.. don’t you?” Amethyst asked, somewhat hurt.
“Of course! Why wouldn’t I?” Peridot asked.
“I dunno,” Amethyst shrugged. Part of her wanted to say ‘You know you shouldn’t spend all your time beat up over Lapis, right?’, but she knew it wasn’t the right time for it. “So.. tell me.. What ar’ya thinking about her?”
“That I wasted my time,” Peridot quipped. “On Lapis.. I spent SO much time with her. I got so close to her. She opened up to me, I opened up to her. We had our tv show, we had Pumpkin, we had farming, and meep morps. I thought.. everything was perfect. But apparently it was just a waste of my time.. because the amount she cared about me was not nearly as much of the amount I cared about her.”
Amethyst looked Peridot, straight in the eyes, “Dude.. I know it hurts.. I’ve been through losing someone. Maybe we didn’t have the same bond, but she was the closest friend I had, other than you and Vidalia.. It’s okay to be sad, and it’s okay to miss her.. but.. you can’t stop living life because of her leaving, and you can’t be sad forever. Life goes on, no matter what.”
“I know..”
“And you know.. I’m here for ya. I’ll always be here for you. So if you ever feel like coming up to me and crying on m’a shoulder, or venting to me, that’s alright, because you’re my best friend,” Amethyst comforted.
Peridot weakly smiled at Amethyst, looking like she was blushing, “You.. mean a lot to me too..”
“I’m glad I do.”
“Amethyst?”
“Huh?”
“…What if.. What if you leave me too?” Peridot asked.
“Dude. I’d never leave you. Never ever,” Amethyst answered, sounding like she was laughing. “I’d be a complete IDIOT if I did.”
“No. You’d be a clod,” Peridot teasingly corrected.
Amethyst blushed, and then smiled, “Dork.”
“HEY!” Peridot hissed, now laughing too, playfully pushing Amethyst.
“Oh man.. I miss this.”
“Miss..what..?” Peridot asked, now confused.
“I miss hanging out with you!” Amethyst exclaimed. “I miss laughing with you, I miss doing things with you. And.. even though you’re right here, I miss you, a lot. Ugh..”
“I.. miss you too..,” Peridot admitted, now blushing herself.
“I feel like.. we only hangout when one of us feels like crap,” Amethyst pointed out the obvious.
“I’m - sorry..,” Peridot apologised.
“For what?” Amethyst asked.
“I was so invested in Lapis, so invested in taking care of her, and making sure she was happy that I.. forgot about you, and everyone else.”
“Peri, it’s fine. You were looking out for your friend,” Amethyst reassured. “But on the brighter side, now we can hangout a lot more often! There’s so much to be introduced to ya!”
“Like.. what?” Peridot asked
“Like that.. ocean!” Amethyst pointed out. “I love running through it. And I love seeing m’a hair flow” Then she pointed to the boardwalk, “And the awesome food Beach City has! And Funland! And the arcade! And the activities! There’s so many fun things.”
“Wellll.. I could use something else to do other than being locked up in the bathroom,” Peridot said. “But - I do need someone to do it with me.”
“I’ll do it with ya!” Amethyst exclaimed. “Buh-sides, I need to actually hangout with you anyways! It’s literally been ages.”
“Actually, Amethyst, it’s been about a week,” Peridot corrected.
“No nerd, I mean just the two of us. No Steven, No Garnet and Pearl, No Lapis, No drama. Just fun! And the two of us, of course!” Amethyst insisted.
“Well I suppose we can.”
“YES!” Amethyst bursted out.
Peridot smiled at her and then sighed, “D-do you think Lapis will ever..come back?”
“If ya want me to be honest and not sugarcoat it.. I don’t know,” Amethyst admitted. Peridot frowned. “But! Let’s hope she will! But once again, let’s not have you spend all your time locked up in the b-room, moping over her. Okay?”
“Okay,” Peridot said. Amethyst laid down on the sand. So Peridot did the same. “So you.. promise you’ll never leave?”
“I promise,” Amethyst promised. “But while we’re making promises and stuff, can ya promise me something?”
“Sure.”
“Promise me you’ll never fake who you are just for someone else’s sake. It’s not healthy, and I think I like the real you better.”
“You knew that I was being ‘overly happy’ and ‘bubbly’ for a reason?” Peridot asked.
“Dude. It was painfully obvious. I literally noticed it whenever I saw you in the same place as Lapis,” Amethyst said. “But I - never said anything because I thought it was because I was jealous or something.”
“You were jealous?”
“A little.. I guess. It’s hard not to when your bestfriend devotes of all her time to another gem, and I get jealous easily,” Amethyst explained.
“Oh.”
“Yeah.”
“But. I do promise that I’ll never force myself to be overly happy and bubbly for Lapis’ sake,” Peridot promised.
“Good,” Amethyst smiled. Silence hit them for a minute or two, then Amethyst finally said something, “Do you.. do you ever think about Homeworld?”
“Of course I do, Amethyst,” Peridot answered, sounding defensive.
“I mean, do you miss it?” Amethyst asked. “Like.. At all?”
“No. I don’t.”
“So if ya had the oppurtunity to go back, you wouldn’t?” Amethyst asked.
“Nope. Never.”
“Even though you’re stuck here with clods like me?” Amethyst asked, half-teasingly, half-serious.
Summary: 2. We were dancing but all of a sudden it’s a slow song and we’re standing here awkwardly staring at each other (Prompt)
Notes: A anon requested this on Tumblr (for a prompt game). This took over a week because I've been trying to brainstorm and I've been busy with school. I guess this would take place after my other fics 'Comfort' and 'Swirling Emotions' if 'I guess that's how I feel about you' didnt exist. I hope this is enjoyable, and not too short.
It was the evening of Steven’s 15th birthday party. They were on the dance floor. Connie and Steven were dancing, unsurprisingly. Lapis was standing off to the side, with Greg, who was playing the music. Garnet, Bismuth, and Pearl were chatting. Amethyst and Peridot were dancing together too.
After one song finished, another song started playing. The mood changed from fun to slow. Peridot knew what the dance for this song was.. slow dancing. Peridot read off Google that ‘a slow dance is a type of partner dance in which a couple dance slowly, swaying to the music. This is usually done to very slow-beat songs, namely sentimental ballads.’ Peridot looked over at Amethyst, almost staring, with Amethyst staring back, wondering if she would even want to slow dance with her.
Amethyst held her hand out, “Peridot.. may I have this dance?”
Peridot hestitantly put her hand on Amethyst’s, now holding it, “O-okay.”
Amethyst gently pulled her in, then placed her left hand firmly, but gently at the same time onto Peridot’s hip. Peridot wrapped her arms around Amethyst, right hand locked in her right hand. The rhythm of their bodies that danced slowly with the music was passionate. Peridot found herself trembling, with her cheeks a light blue, staring at her face. Her chest felt a mix of things, heavy, tingly, and pounding. ‘Stop staring at her like that!’ Peridot told herself, hoping Amethyst wouldn’t notice how flustered she was. She looked down, so she wouldn’t stare at Amethyst. She was a mess. She was trembling, blushing, her chest felt weird, she could feel herself sweating, not because it was hot, but more like stress sweat. After about 30 seconds, Peridot then looked up at Amethyst, her breathing became of little depth, and her chest now felt like it was racing. Her face was so close to Amethyst’s. She felt her face getting closer to Amethyst’s, specifically her lips. She then immediately pulled away.
“I-I got to go,” Peridot stammered, now looking away from Amethyst, avoiding eye contact. She ran off, disappearing from sight.
Amethyst stood there. Now alone. She was confused. She was hurt. She felt stupid for ever asking Peridot to dance. She face-palmed, 'Ugh! I really messed up this time. I should have known she was going to get so uncomfortable, and that things would get so awkward. This is my fault. I shouldn't have asked her to dance.. Why would she want to dance with me? I wouldn't want to..' She ran after Peridot, following her into the beach house. It was dark, very dark. She turned on the lights. "...Peridot?" No response. "Peri.. is everything okay?" 'She has to be in the bathroom..' And so she was, sitting there by herself, hiding her face in her knees, almost like she was curled up in a ball. "Oh man.. Peridot.." She sighed, "I'm sorry.. I-I should've never asked you to slow dance.."
“It’s not that..,” Peridot groaned.
“Oh?” Amethyst asked, now confused. “Then.. what’s wrong? Did I do something?”
“No. You didn’t do anything, Amethyst,” Peridot said. She looked up, her cheeks were super blue. She sighed, “I’m embarrassed.”
“Embarrassed? Wait. Why?” Amethyst asked.
"Because!" Peridot bursted out. "ERGH!" She took a deep breath. "Amethyst.. it's not that I didn't want to slow dance with you. Because frankly, I did. I did want to dance with you. And If I didn't want to, I would have said so. But - I kept staring at you! I was trembling! I was blushing! I think I was even sweating! I was a mess. And it was very embarrassing.."
“Oh right…,” Amethyst mumbled. “..Is it because you don’t like it when we touch or whatever? Because I can back off if ya want. Y'know?”
"No! That's not what I meant! I do like it! But I - hate the way it makes me feel when we touch. Whenever you do, I just freeze up, or blush or temble, or all the above.." Peridot rambled. "I know you noticed! And that's why I ran off! I was embarrassed of you noticing how flustered I was."
"Ughhhh.... Peridot," Amethyst groaned.
"What?" Peridot asked, now confused but worried she did something.
"You're not the only one who's a mess! You make me feel so mushy. All. The time." Amethyst divulged, now blushing herself. "It's super lame. Right?" She sighed her and crossed her arms, "I hate that I love it.."
Peridot smiled, “Glad I’m not.”
"Yea..," Amethyst smiled back. She came over, and then sat down next to Peridot. Peridot then wrapped her arms around Amethyst's stomach, her face nuzzling into Amethyst's shoulder. Amethyst's cheeks got darker. "So.. how do ya feel now?"
“Warm and fuzzy inside.”
“Same dude.”
After at 5 to 10 minutes of just cuddling in silence, Amethyst finally broke it, “So.. do you wanna go back out there now? I’m sure the others are probably wondering.”
“Oh - uh, sure,” Peridot answered.
Amethyst got up and out of the tub, then helping Peridot up. They stared at each other for a minute, then nervously giggled and blushed. They started to head outside. Amethyst grabbed Peridot’s hand, now holding it, “Is that alright?”
“It’s perfect,” Peridot said, now holding onto Amethyst's hand.
(End Notes: Yes, Peridot did almost kiss Amethyst before she ran off.)
