Can you explain destiel to me? How did it become canon? How can angels be gay?

Destiel is a main fandom ship of Dean Winchester and the angel Castiel from the show Supernatural. The show has been going on since 2005, and due to the fact that basically any female romantic interest or recurring character are killed off in the show fairly quickly, the only relationship explored in early seasons was between the two brothers, Sam and Dean, who are main characters of the show.

Enter Castiel, I think around season 5? I used to be much more brushed up on the timeline but it's been literal years since I gave a shit, lol. This angel pulls Dean out of hell and has all sorts of prolific lines about it and how they share a profound bond and the people invested in the show go oh okay cool this is a relationship we can get into and explore.

Cue about 15 years of queerbaiting, with the writers always dancing around but never confirming anything and at least one of the actors outright refusing to speak or denying on any sort of lgbt+ subtext.

Keep in mind I stopped giving a shit when they killed a lesbian recurring character offscreen and dumped her body in a bathtub which was several seasons ago. Fast forward to the final FINAL season (since CW has beaten this horse to the grave and back many times) and like 3 episodes from the finale they have Castiel tearfully confess his one-sided love for Dean, who spends the scene looking constipated. Castiel then immediately dies due to some sort of plot shenanigans and goes to super hell, which is worse than regular hell because they did regular hell back in season 4ish and supernatural has no idea how to de-escalate plot so they had to make a worse hell.

So they went from 15ish years of queerbaiting to tragic one-sided gay love confession to bury your gays in about 30 seconds flat. Also angels can be gay if they want to, as a treat.

Well what I normally do when wanting to learn languages is I try to memorize verb/noun conjugations bit by bit along with vocab. Is that a bad idea? And do you know how I might do that with french?

I don’t think learning methods are good or bad, if they work for you then they work, that’s that (I’m sure some level 8 polyglot will disagree with me but oh well). I don’t that’s a bad idea and I actually do the same when I’m starting out with a language. Especially when you’re looking at a text and don’t really know anything, knowing vocabulary but no grammar will give you an idea of the topic whereas knowing grammar but no vocab won’t. Eventually you might hit a “stump” where it feels like you’re not learning anything, but when that happens try to focus less on vocabulary and more on grammar. Learning vocab will make it easy to understand simple sentences but more complicated sentences tend to have more particles, adverbs, etc and vocab won’t help you too much there.

Here’s a small list of basics to start, and after these, just build more and more and you go:

For verbs, learn the basic conjugations of to be/to have/to do/to go (être/avoir/faire/aller). Here is a list of the top 10 French verbs (plus an extra 15 at the bottom). They tend to be the same for most languages.

Learn all the little “connecting words”–conjunctions, question words, location words. Things like and, with, but, like, although, also, when, etc. (et, avec, mais, comme, par contre, aussi, quand, etc) Here are some basics with examples.

If you know the above and a lot of vocab, you can already deduct the meaning of a lot of phrases. This works well for casually learning a language but I wouldn’t recommend it for heavier learning, such as studying for a course. Good luck!

So I do like the idea of Mike and Will because they’re cute together. I mean, HAVE YOU WATCHED SEASON 2? Good Lord, Byeler was off the charts. I’m aware they are a bunch of 13-year-old boys. But just because I like them together doesn’t mean I want them to have sex?? Like?? What is this logic? 

You may know of this thing called “crush,” right? Kids have crushes early (not all obviously). It happens. It’s normal. They blush when they see someone they like. Perhaps they want to hold their hands or kiss their cheeks. I know because I’ve been there. When you’re a kid you don’t think of things like that, not everyone’s into that. So please jot that down. Heck, these kids have so much going on in their lives—Dungeons & Dragons, school, the friggin’ Upside Down. 

Now, I love Mike and Eleven as much as the next guy. And no one’s complaining about that. Most people cheer when they kiss and they find it adorable and cute. But when it’s Will and Mike, suddenly it’s sexualizing? What kind of homophobic shit is that? Let them be kids and have crushes regardless of gender.
