something that i find interesting about independent animation nowadays is that if you don't have studio/streamer backing, you have to release your work yourself on the internet, but you have to do it for free on the internet because virtually nobody is going to be willing to accept a paywall just for one original show, so what you have to do in order to make any money off of it is make all of your money from merchandising, but then this means that you show must be merchandisable and have very toyetic character designs that translate easily to plushies and whatnot, but then you also need to cater your show to people who are disproportionately inclined to buy merchandise like that in the first place so that your sales can be enough to sustain you, which means that even if you want to communicate complex or difficult ideas in your work, your independent animation project must attract (at least on a first impression) and retain viewers who are both very consumerist and very capable of rabid passion, which unfortunately has a single-circle shaped venn diagram with a lot of the most toxic fandom tendencies known to man, and this explains a lot of things about independent animation and its fandoms nowadays I think

i wish we got more from steven about the whole marlene and diatrice situation... i remember in the original run of moon knight, he was the one primarily involved with marlene, so i think he would have a lot of feelings on the matter... jake even calls her "steven's girl" at one point.

i know hes seen as physically the "weakest" (and i could even debate that) of the three but like. hes still a very important part of them 😭 i need writers to think about him as much as i do 😭😭😭

Everything after the OG run just ditched Steven. Even our amazing current run pushes Steven aside.

In the original run we featured heavily on Steven and Jake. Jake wanted very little to actually do with Marlene and saw her as "Steven's Girl". Steven was very much in with Marlene and she preferred him to the others. It's OG Cannon!

What happened was that in the 90s, comics decided people wanted ACTION and Steven, who was seen more as the pacifistic brains was ditched. Steven was smart with socialization, charity, money, business, and getting info out of people that were high society. So the comics took a big pivot away from Steven and turned to Marc and his ACTION ANGST.

I can't say it's 100% OG fault because Moench started the trend of featuring Marc Spector in his later comics. We got little after comics of Marc's merc days and Marc was painted as a good man ( I cling to those comics, he is such a HIMBO with a heart of gold and zero ability to make good choices). These were apparently very popular and Marc was the clear 'cash cow' of the trio.

Comics dropped Steven and didn't know what to do with Jake. They started to slowly break up his social gatherings and gave him less of a reason to be around.

Then you got BEMIS who probably picked up half a comic of Moench's and saw that Jake could be a little hot headed at times and often fought with Marc so suddenly Jake was the bad psycho guy.

I love that MacKay has redone Jake and made him the nice loving guy again that hangs out with the common man.... But I am still deeply unsatisfied with how he has Steven.

Steven is painted as the one that can pull control and cares only about business and money. Sure, I love that Steven has that control, but he isn't just some business man sitting high in his sky scraper with his eyes on stocks.

I want kind-hearted Steven that loves to socialize and maybe has his eye on being a family man... Or at least being a father figure to Diatrice.

At the very least they can have him helping her with homework or something.

I'm forever screaming into the voice about Steven erasure.
