If 1984 or Fahrenheit 451 is ever, I repeat, EVER banned in the time I am alive, I will personally show up in whatever district freaking bans it. None of your arguments work here. There is no sexual content, no 'woke' agenda. 1984 was written by George Orwell in 1949. He was inspired by the rise of communism and the acts of every country during World War two. Fahrenheit 451 was written in 1950 and published in 1953, by Ray Bradbury. He was inspired by acts of book burning and newspaper influences, as well as the Nazi book burnings and McCarthyism (the red scare, 'invasion of communists). There is no woke agenda. This was written before approximately half of the American Congress was even born. The other half were about 3 or four years old.
30 members of Congress were born in 1925 to 1945
264 members of Congress were born in 1946 to 1964
179 members of Congress were born in 1965 to 1979
67 members of Congress were born in 1980 to 1994
1 member of Congress was born in the 1995 to 2012 range. He was born in 1997, and served originally the House of Representatives for Florida's 10th district.
As such, if it is banned, it is simply because they do not agree with it. If the government, state or federal, can support book banning because someone simply does not agree with it, that is not the country I was raised in, born in, vote in, or protest in.
The fact I have to make a line at all when it comes to book banning is stupid. No book should be banned. But if those two books ever get banned, I will know for certain that this country has fallen. Fascism is defined as such- authoritarian (belief in only one political party, rejection of political plurality), ultranationalistic (belief or action that only one country matters, regardless of impact on other countries, including and not limited to violence, coercion, and genocide) and dictatorial (the belief a single political ruler, or a group of people with one political policy defined as a polity, has the right to all power in a country) political ideology. If this country bans books, it will be checking two of these three boxes, and considering our already militaristic, MAGA attitude, it will be really, really close to that last box.
I would advocate for increased penalties on sexual crimes. The president can't change laws alone, but they have a large impact on what people focus on, and enough focus almost guarantees change.
Not political this time. Just saying, that even if were the first one public about it, I wouldn't be the first president to read Ao3.
Hey guys, you know what I just realized? We can actually get rid of Trump again. This time with actual results. He's got 3 and a half years left in his term, let's get rid of him.
Call your representatives, tell them you want Donald Trump impeached on crimes related to abuse of power. There's two options- we're ignored, or we're listened to. After that, we can learn how far gone our government is in terms of Trump owning congress.
If impeachment is brought up, Congress must go over the facts and 'convict' the impeachee in a 2/3s majority vote. Last time (the second time) Donald Trump was impeached, Senate brought forth the charges, but only the House of Representatives voted on impeachment. Senate failed to reach the 2/3s majority vote to remove Trump, and the charges were dismissed. In August 2023, Trump was twice indicted for the conduct at issue in his impeachment, once in Georgiaand the other federally. The federal charges were dismissed in November 2024 due to the Department of Justice's policy of not prosecuting sitting presidents, subsequent to Trump's re-election that month. The Georgia one went through, with Trump and 13 other conspirators being found guilty of charges of forgery, impersonation (of a public officer), RICO violations (the state's anti-rackettering law), and perjury. Trump specifically was found guilty of RICO violations, false statements, impersonation of a public officer, and forgery. It doesn't seem like he was jailed or fined for these offenses.
I don't like what happened last time. Too many things were fishy and not properly done (the Republicans of Senate refused to bring forth papers for evidence, likely contributing to Trump being later acquitted), and as such, I would like to see it happen again. There have only been four impeachments of Presidents, successful or not, and at the current moment, Trump has half of them. I'm kind of curious if the third times the charm.
I vote we all stand in a circle around Donald Trump. Don't say anything, do anything. Just stand in a wall of people several people deep. Imagine the image, of a man who believes himself a god, humbled by the people. Should he dare touch us for doing nothing but standing, it will be more fuel to the fire of his guilt.
Except- he's been doing this the whole time. He's been pushing down innocents since the moment he had power, money, or fame.
Let's not be blind to the slights passed on the people. Not the "immigrants", the "gays", whatever you justify lines between us a society. If one person is knocked down, you don't look and say, "oh it was a girl, surely they won't push a guy", you look the assaulter in the fucking eyes and push back. Because if they did it to one human, they can and will do it to another.
I would again, like to repeat that the Pentagon Press Corps replaced Politico and three other somewhat decent, accurate reporting new sources with HuffPost and three other somewhat poor, inaccurate reporting news sources. It went from somewhat left leaning sources to a scattering of other news sources, outright left or right groups. The most extreme of the old group (New York Times, left lean) is far, far lower than the least extreme of the second group (New York Post, right lean).
Worst part? At least two of these are know for publishing conspiracy theories (One America News and Breitbart News). Both are far-right and One America is pro-Trump. The last is a freaking tabloid (New York Post). The final one is owned by BuzzFead (HuffPost), which no offense, BuzzFead, you are not my go-to source for anything but puppy interviews with celebrities.
The time in which America is going through its most aggressive changes is the time in which the press and news sources that we normally trust are removed from primary sources. Take that as you will.
If you want a full explanation, I complied my sources in the pinned post on my page, as well as my thought process. I think this is something that has not been reported on enough, and as such, I have taken it upon myself to research it. Do what you will with this information, but please, know that it is happening, and our information sources are being manipulated at this moment by the current presidential cabinet.
The day I see violence as the only way out in a democracy is the day I develop magnetism as my X-gene mutant power.
