Over the past ten years, Sene Lavellan has tried to move on from Solas. First, with Abelas, an ancient elf with a fierce but gentle soul, and then with Ameridan, one of the wisest men she's ever known. But it's never enough. She finds herself forever yanked under the surface, in dreams. Like a riptide, Solas is always there. And when his ritual fails, and the shit hits the fan, she will do anything to protect him, and to pursue her destiny by his side. Slowly he will come to learn that there is no fate but the love they share. *This is a canon rewrite, beginning in the time period that Solas leaves Skyhold and extending through the canon era of Veilguard.*

Just finishing up my Sene Lavellan x Ameridan section for Riptide. I wrote an entirely new piece yesterday in which Solas visits Ameridan in the Fade. It was very fun to write them. It's very fun to write Solas any time he is taken by surprise and/or off-balance:

"I have come here to just…ask you how she is," said Solas. "How she is doing. That is all.”

Ameridan, amused, finished his drink. He refilled it himself with two finger taps to the table. “You want to know how Sene is doing?”

“Yes.”

“She is doing well,” said Ameridan. “She is fine. Why don't you ask her yourself?”

"What do you mean?"

"I've seen your butterflies," he said, smiling. "They hover over her as she sleeps. At first, I thought maybe Abelas, but he doesn't have the power to track her like that, to know where she is. You, however, do. So, why don't you simply walk in her dreams, and ask her? Or do you do that already?"

"I haven't walked in Sene's dreams in over a year," said Solas. "I figured she would have told you."

"We don't speak of you very often, Solas. It is a sore subject for Sene. If ever we do, that's a whole conversation, and it tends to ruin the mood."

Riptide: Chapter 33

Chapter 33: Promise Me.

Cullen and Ameridan find themselves high and dry back at Skyhold. In Haven, Sene and Solas discuss the future, prompting Solas to make a choice.

"MY AGENTS have seen no sign of Sene," said Leliana, standing tall by the war room door, hands clasped firstly behind her back, chin high. "Abelas is scouting the Crossroads, but he fears we may be too late. I agree. If she does not wish to be found, we both know how that goes, Commander."

"Yes, we do." Cullen sighed, leaning into the war table with his head hanging over the map. "Maker's fucking breath, Sene. Why now."

"Perhaps we should reprioritize. Have you sent word to Ameridan?"

"I have. I am hoping she's there."

"If she was going back to Halamshiral, don't you think she'd have mentioned it in her note?"

"Not necessarily."

The door opened then. Two scouts rushed inside, looking exasperated, both of them Dalish elves. "The Inquisitor is here," said the first, a young woman with very blond hair.

"Which one?" said Cullen, annoyed.

"Inquisitor Ameridan," she said. "He's on his way to the War Room."

Leliana smiled. "This ought to be interesting. I'll let you handle it, Commander, as you are the expert, after all."

"The expert at what?" said Cullen. "Subduing the temperaments of manic Inquisitors? Or simply dealing with unpredictable bullshit on a daily basis?"

"Both," said Leliana. 

"Well, I can't wait."

She slipped out, taking her scouts with her, and not another moment passed before Ameridan practically kicked in the door.

Cullen felt a massive headache coming on.

"What the fuck is going on?" said Ameridan. He leaned over the table, forcing Cullen to look him in the eye. "You lost Sene?"

"I did not lose Sene," said Cullen. "She ran off."

"When?"

"Must have been late last night. There's no sign of her. Except for this note."

Same anon as last night--if you're done with this old fic of yours that's obviously fine and ignore me! but another q: in the various post-trespasser AUs ft Abelas and Ameridan, where is Solas? Does he know? What's he doing? Does he keep tabs on Sene? Does he regret his choices? Is he successfully finding a way to tear down the veil? Is he doing it for Mythal?

Hello, anon! I'm so sorry I missed this.

I haven't planned out these fics in-depth, but part of that is because I don't know where Solas is. They're based on a "canon" universe, so in all honesty, I'm sort of waiting for DA4! I don't know exactly what Solas is *doing* at this time; however, the following things are safe to say about his closeness to Sene:

Solas does keep tabs on Sene after DAI. He is extremely jealous of Abelas, even though he knows he has no right to be, and he would bring this up during their confrontation at the end of Trespasser. He would see Sene's relationship with Abelas as fulfilling all the things he has ever wanted for himself and for her: physical and emotional closeness, and an escape from the expectations of power and back to the freedoms of the natural world. After Sene breaks up with Abelas, I picture Solas approaching Abelas, as a friend, but Abelas wanting nothing to do with him. This harms Solas deeply, as in my universe, they were very close friends when they lived with Mythal.

Solas is taken by surprised when Ameridan returns. He is not sure how it worked, and he could not predict it or explain it. This threatens him a little bit, but more than anything, he is intrigued. Ameridan working with Sene causes him to question a great deal, as he is convinced that Ameridan must have a very strong, ancient magic to be able to resurrect the way that he did. Solas thinks of him as a kind of modern day evanuris and he's not sure how to deal with that. Of course, Ameridan has no ambitions beyond fulfilling his personal needs and desires. He has no want to influence the world, but I think that this would change when he learns who Solas is. He might have stories about Fen'Harel from Telana, who was a Dreamer, and might have met Solas in the Fade. Ameridan might meet Solas's mother at some point and admire her deeply. He and Sene would want to be separate from the struggles and strains of war, but inevitably, they would get sucked in.

Ameridan has major hang-ups about self-sacrifice as it ofc cost him so much. He would not want Sene to ruin her life or her youth simply trying to stop Solas. He would try to convince her to leave the problem for someone else to solve. Maybe he's wrong or right, but ultimately he just wants her NOT to blame herself so much when it comes to Solas and his plans. Sene has never been power-hungry or ambitious. Being with Ameridan allows her a quiet life, and even to move back to her farm, which Ameridan, who is basically "old order" Dalish, would love a great deal (and ofc Sene's clan would love him).
