XIA QINGHE, the 37 year-old EMPRESS has arrived from NANJING. The PEARLESCENT resembles ZHU ZHU and is both CLEVER and CONTROLLING. They are a member of the MING DYNASTY and remind the poets of A GOWN OF FINE, VIBRANT SILK; THE LINGERING PRESENCE OF FLORAL PERFUME; AND A SMILE HIDING SHARP TEETH. In the annals of history, they will be remembered in the year of 1319 as a PLAYER. Qinghe was born into a life of great privilege, and yet always strove for more. From birth, it seemed she had great ambition. She was a fast learner, practically competitive in how quickly she blossomed from a headstrong girl to a beautiful, calculating woman.

The court in Nanjing was illustrious, and though she was not (yet) a princess, it seemed that she was born to be there. It afforded opportunities of which she could only dream before, the chance to control her own destiny. It also afforded proximity to the man who would one day become Emperor, and she was intentional in placing herself in his path. It all seemed to work exactly as she hoped, and soon she had one of the most powerful men in China in her thrall.

If nothing else, Qinghe is an intelligent woman. She keeps a keen eye in the goings-on at court, watching carefully so that she might determine where the chips may fall. While she handles them wisely, her own desires come before all else. A near second is the future of her children, which she desires above all to shape to her exact specifications.

In all, she enjoys living life at the top. Between herself and her illustrious mother-in-law, the dowager empress, Qinghe is entirely positive that she knows the throne of China is in capable hands, no matter who sits atop it.
