My Hiatus from The Fish Pen
1) I was watching the Olympics and the Women's Baseball World Cup
Did you watch the Olympics? Watching international play made me wonder if any current or past Bridgeport Bluefish spent any time on an Olympic or World Baseball Classic Rosters. I remember catcher Hector Kuilan was selected for the Puerto Rican National Team during the 2005 World Cup season, but that's about it. I'm sure there were a few other guys representing at some point. Let me know.
I'm a big fan of women's baseball, so I've been keeping track of the 5th Women's Baseball World Cup. The USA team was undefeated until IBAF rules gave Canada runners on first and second and the advantage to batting anywhere in the lineup after the US team had tied the game. In protest of that ridiculous rule I'm completely against baseball returning to the Olympics if they're going to have the same rules in place. Rules like that are why I despite softball so much (among a whole slew of other reasons). Check out the page, there's a link with schedule and results and game tracking info. Japan actually live streams their games on Youtube and Canada's games have an online radio broadcast. Support women's baseball dangit!
2) I was out enjoying my summer.
While visiting the Connecticut Wine Festival a few weeks ago in Goshen, I ran into a Bridgeport Bluefish hat that wasn't on my own head! Of course, the budding blogger that I am ran right over, introduced myself, and asked for a pic. I figured someone out there would appreciate it.
Marybeth Clifford and Jeff Simon were enjoying a little tasting before I bothered them. Jeff was reluctant for the pic...I appreciate Marybeth making it happen. They were good sports. I hope they make it to some games this season, and bring friends! And, of course, the budding blogger that I am, I forgot to ask where they were from or if they've been to any games this season. I just ran off after the pic. Like I said people, the blog is a work in progress as am I.
Bridgeport showed its face again that day in Goshen. Check out the free samples that were being given away.
This family owned business runs out of Bridgeport. The folks are Bridgeport natives so I'm all over it. Some of the people around me mentioned they bought the product in the past and it works great! Click here to buy direct or to look up local retailers.
3) The Bluefish were on a long road trip which usually results in missing the games online.
Now that the Bluefish are back home--with a new GM and without Brock Peterson--keep your eyes peeled for a new post covering the latest moves, wins, and losses for the Bridgeport Bluefish. Until then make sure you get to the game tonight vs the Somerset Patriots, its Thirsty Thursdays, so drink up!
