some gyros to celebrate his return
and like. if you regret it, there’s no way of going back, you know? detached limbs have to be re-attached immediately, and even then it’s still possible it will reject. if the newness factor wears off... you can’t just change your mind.
it probably bugs you because those people are willingly throwing away their limbs just because they want a prosthetic, when amputees most of the time didn't have any choice on the matter
yeah i think that’s probably it? like, not to put it badly but, like. having a full body… it’s a privilege. not in the societal way, but like. in the same way as riding a school bus. some people… haven’t been as lucky. so the idea of somebody wanting to throw that away just so they can have a robot limb when there are people who would do anything to just have back what they lost… i dunno. i’m all over the place and im still not sure this is quite it.
i’m not entirely sure why it bugs me as much as it does but, like. for some reason the idea of willingly replacing a limb really bugs me. like, it’s one thing to get a prosthetic because you need it, but it’s quite another to willfully have your limb removed specifically to get a prosthetic
idk. a discussion tonight brought this up and now i feel dumb for being bugged by it.
maqdaddio replied to your post:i hate how pervasive amputation jokes are in...
I never really considered it often until I knew you, but now it’s WOW everywhere??
my mom’s told me the same thing. it’s something that doesn’t really stand out to you until you know someone who’s affected by it.
idk i don’t talk about amputation things as much these days because i don’t want to give people Discourse about it but like. god. i am so sick of sitting down to watch something and suddenly finding myself watching an experience i lived being laughed at
like, i know some of my sensitivity is obviously because i’m an amputee, but it just feels like these jokes shouldn’t be as common as they are
