My post about assigning every decade I've lived a favorite character of mine got a content warning put on it because it had a picture of Cookie from Rayman in it and Tumblr keeps mistaking a screenshot of a mostly flesh-toned cartoon animal for actual porn. I can't stand automated flagging systems. 🙄
I realized recently that I could basically assign every decade I've lived so far a favorite character that was relevant to my life at that point.
My childhood - Gordon (Quid of the Highland Quid Clan) from Catscratch
My teen years - the March Hare from American McGee's Alice/Madness Returns
My twenties - Cookie from Rayman The Animated Series
My thirties are shaping up to be the Wacky Weasel years, but since I'm only halfway through the first year of my thirties we can't be too sure yet.
Like on one hand me imagining Wacky Weasel being friends with my own original weasel character is obvious self-indulgent wish fulfillment, but on the other hand it's really funny because imagine being a 26 year-old with PTSD and you get more kindness from this fuckass hobo who likes to terrorize literally everyone else in the neighborhood than from your own family.
Sometimes I'll leave YouTube music on auto play and then Now That You're Gone by The Raconteurs will come on and I'm like oh great it's the Stolas Kills Himself song.

I think Wacky would keep trying to be funny. I think he'd keep making jokes while pulling her head into his lap and holding her hand. I think he'd continue trying to make her smile up until the end. Hell, maybe he'd even succeed this time. Maybe she'd finally crack a smile at something he said. And then she'd die.
And then

Would Wacky allow himself to choke up and cry. Only when he was certain that she was gone.
I drew myself as a March Hare a few years ago, might've been 2023, might've been earlier. I tried to find the picture again in my camera roll, but I ended up just missing my dead dog. But anyway, I remember when I originally drew it, I drew the eyes bulging out with the intent to pay homage to the March Hare from Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, AKA Thackery Earwicket.
If I were to redraw this March Hare, I'd probably change the way I draw the eyes. Give them dark bags underneath and a thick outline over the eyes like mascara. Make them look angry, maybe even a little evil. Kind of like the outlander lions from The Lion King 2. This would reflect how this March Hare is sick of being in the Hatter's shadow and overlooked. I'd let you know just by looking at them that they resent their very existence.
