Even if that means screeching like the silly monster-loving fangirl I am?? I'm not sure if anyone else in our small but surprisingly vocal auditorium were reacting to the trailer because I was just, beside myself with joy at seeing the trailer and seeing HIM. Like oh my god HE IS GORGEOUS AND I SADLY DON'T KNOW IF HE HAS A NAME OR ANYTHING?? But at the end I did go, "Fuck yeaaaaaaaaah!!!" lol
The ancient animal I’m studying for my paleontology degree, and also my fursona is one (whenever I make a joke about my selfshipping shenanigans I call my fursona by her species name)
Long explanation underneath
The sacabambaspis (Sacabambaspis Janervi) is an ancient Ordovician era fish found along the tropical shallow waters off the supercontinent Gondwana. It’s the precursor to most segmented vertebrae and to many jawless fishes like lampreys and hagfish. It also has a lateral line system that helps it sense movement in the water.
Its most prominent feature is its front facing eyes and forever surprised expression, using what’s most likely suction feeding since it has no jaw. But it’s also heavily armored on its top half down to the tail in a chevron pattern, with narrow webbed fins at the lower end of its tail.
Most popular depictions are incorrect, as this initial museum model they got popular… Was made in a rush with craft store supplies!!
I love this ugly little fish also here’s a comparison from its fossil to a drawn reconstruction from online that I think is still pretty accurate
