what are your overall thoughts on Odyssey now that Balloon World is out
it’s neat! it’s pretty fun, not super happy with how many people stuff balloons out of bounds. that can genuinely ruin the experience, but once you get through all the balloon streak ranks it stops being as big of a problem since the only risk is loss of coins (and odds are you’re getting a shitton of those anyway)
if nintendo fixes the out of bounds stuff (presumably by making it so anything outside the geometry is considered inaccessible and balloons cannot be placed there) then i’m sure it’d be a lot more fun overall

it looks dead ringer like a generic anime. like when you think “generic highschool anime” in your head the exact designs of the new characters come to mind
the original designs were really grounded and unique and thats what made it so timeless. its kinda hard to describe and pinpoint exactly what makes them this timeless considering in terms of tone the original FLCL is as early 2000s as you can get at times
to be honest there’s only one design that’s good out of the lot of them and i have an aching hunch it’s just naota aged up which speaks for itself

if the mario fangaming scene were anywhere near as unified as the sonic fangaming scene then probably, honestly
for one reason or another a lot of mario fangames tend to not really deviate too far from the base mario formula, which unfortunately for all groups involved doesn’t have a ton of depth to it unlike sonic’s deceptively simple controls. my ideal mario fangame would mix smash bros’ simple combat with platforming to have expanded movement options, though for a mario mania it’d probably be really off-beat and strange like a lot of mario games were during the virtual boy/N64 era
imagine if Splatoon 2 is the main focus for e3 this year
i mean i doubt that would happen completely but it would be miserable because last years direct was a fucking snoozefest

thoughts on Mother 4 rebranding
could go either way honestly
i definitely think it not being mother 4 anymore makes it lose something. its basically the same game and we never really even knew to what extent it even related to the mother universe, but either way that connection felt special because the production values were so high and it looked genuinely like a mother 4
itoi isn’t going to make one. that much is certain and he’s said in the past that he’d be happy to play one himself, so i was in the mentality that The Day Has Finally Come! and he would, and i guess it’s not going away
on the other hand, now there’s a chance to play this game on the switch- being a “true” indie means way, way more, and i’m hoping that the game mostly stays the same barring a handful of rewrites (and i’d love to get my hands on some of the original scripts to compare) because then, in theory, the switch could be the first console to let you play all four mother titles (assuming mother 3 actually hits VC) without changing systems. EB0 and earthbound both were on the wii u, so if mother 3 and whatever mother 4 becomes make their way as well then we’d come full circle
i really want to buy a switch too but if i have to wait in line before a store opens to maybe be able to preorder one out of 3 available systems, then i don't know if i should keep buying nintendo things

my best bet is to go on amazon, and i guess that’s fine, i got plenty of practice with that during the amiibo craze, but i’m a fucking adult now. i live in the city and i can do what i want. i would love to spend my first huge console launch going to gamestop at midnight, take it home and play it all fucking night.
but i won’t be able to do that. they’re gonna give every gamestop in the country like 10-20 units for preorder and i’m not camping out in shitty winter new york weather.
