Prayers and sound help us to achieve peace and tranquility. Sound is a very powerful manifestation within the spectrum of electromagnetic waves. Just as the Genesis in the Bible states, the Creation was made by means of sound, that is why in the text it is repeated so many times:
'And God said'.
Words have the power to set us free us or keep us stuck, which is why we need to be so careful about the things we say. But there are two types of words, the audible ones and those that we repeat mentally. Usually we maintain monologues or mental conversations that far from giving us peace and tranquility are the source of depression, anxiety and failures.
More than 20,000 years ago, in India and other ancient peoples, sound formulas and prayers were created to transform us into more positive, pure, peaceful, successful and healthy beings. In India they were called mantras and more than seven million of these were developed for different purposes in the life of the human being. The word mantra comes from Sanskrit and is divided into two roots: meaning mind and that means protecting. Thus, the mantra is a formula to protect our mind. In the Judaeo-Christian tradition the psalms are the equivalent of mantras and there are very powerful prayers that are mostly hidden from the common known religious texts that have even more powerful vibrations. Many of these powerful prayers are in the esoteric branches of those religions, like the Knights Templar and also the Kabbalists. One of the prayers that have become a bit more popular and less underground is the Ana Bekoach prayer (www.anabekoachmeditation.com).
Most of us use the mind against our own interests, therefore, these mantras and prayers protects us from not using it inappropriately. If we were able to keep our mind occupied during the day by mentally repeating a short prayer, we would avoid many problems and enter into a state of peace and tranquility. But, the mantra is also used to protect the mind of those we love. If you know that a loved one is suffering or going through hardship, using one of these formulas on them. This can be done by visualizing or looking at a picture of the person and repeating the mantra we want to apply on them. The are endless ways of applying a mantra or a prayer to a specific life situation, as described here.
Singing the mantra: There are two ways of chanting a mantra: audibly or mentally. The first has an effect on the environment around us and the second on our mental processes. The regular repetition of a mantra has a healing effect on our mind and, consequently, on our body, therefore gradually improving our health. Most of the mantras begin Om, which represents God. That syllable is the contraction of three letters aum. To understand it within the Christian tradition the a is the Father, u is the Son and the m is the Holy Spirit. The Om or aum is the same as the Amen, although the latter is used as an affirmative element, as it may be.
We can give more power and strength to the prayer or mantra by synchronizing the breath as follows: Inhale as you mentally repeat it three times and exhale as you repeat it three times mentally. If you want to do it audibly, inhale deeply and gently chant it, lengthening the final m. During the day, do not let your thoughts fly. Just as a rider keeps control of his horse with the bridle, keep control of your mind with the mantra or prayer. If you do not want to use the Om, use the Amen. The effect will be the same. Once you have learned the Ana Bekoach by heart, it can be used exactly the same way, even during lunch break. You will attract the peace, and you will overcome the depression and the anxiety. More importantly, your mind will be a source of radiance of blessings to anyone who comes to you.
