The World's Largest Snake
Which is the largest snake in the world?
The largest snake in the world is the Anacon (eunectes murinus). Anacondas are non-venomous and are found in South America. Anacondas are larger than all members of the snake family in body size and are one of the longest. The average adult anaconda snake can reach up to 5 meters in length.

The largest anaconda on record today is 5 meters 21 centimeters and weighs 97.5 kilograms. The body weights of the species have not been studied in great detail, research has shown that their weight varies between 30 and 70 kilograms according to their age and sex. Although there have been rumours that observations have been made which are claimed to be two or three times greater than this, these have not been scientifically proven.
In South America, anacondas have habitat within the borders of the countries of Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil and Paraguay in the area east of the Andes. They mostly live in swamps, stream areas where runoff is scarce, and rainforest basins. They feed mainly by hunting fish, birds, mammals and other reptiles. When they are on land in the water they move faster and catch their prey by wrapping and strangling them with their bodies while they hunt.

Although anacondas are the world’s largest snake in terms of body size, caged pythons (python reticulatus) hold the title of the world’s longest snake. They have an average adult caged python snake between 3 and 6 meters in length. The longest python snake ever seen has a length of 6 metres 95 centimetres, while its weight is 59 kilograms. Python snakes are powerful enough to suffocate a human. It has extensive habitats in Southeast Asia. They mostly live in rain areas and frequent Woodlands. They feed on mammals and birds.
Largest snake fossil found
A fossil belonging to the species, called Titanboa, was found in a coal mine opened in the Amazon forests in 2009. The snake, thought to have lived 58 to 60 million years ago, is 13 metres long and weighs 1,135 kilograms, experts estimate.
