Officer Keith Boyer was an excellent example of how an officer should carry his or herself on and off duty. The fact a GOOD officer who changed the lives of so many in positive ways was slain by a certified criminal is heartbreaking especially with most recent news in Anaheim. The off-duty officer in Anaheim is NOT helping keep the image of police officers in a good light. When a 13 year old gives attitude, as a parent you don't grab your gun and shoot at them for being brats, as a citizen you don't grab your gun and shoot at them for being brats, so it shouldn't be any different with an off-duty officer who has an ongoing issue with bratty kids being brats--shocker there. Call your buddies ON duty to bust these kids walking on your lawn--OF ALL THE LAUGHABLE OFFENSES TO CHOOSE FROM btw--but no, because we live in a police state where we are so quick to go for the gun, and because this officer couldn't handle himself like a professional officer despite being off-duty, now ALL of these kids, those involved as well as all those bystanding or filming, will never trust cops again, will be more likely to get involved in criminal behavior, and are more likely to be noncompliant and disrespectful to cops in the future. Not to mention any trauma these children--yes, CHILDREN--will face for years to come from having an officer grab one of their friends and open fire for giving some average adolescent 'tude. I don't care if the kids weren't listening--just as kids do because they're KIDS--you don't assert your authority in such an aggressive manner that you feel the need to bring your gun out with you while you yell at some crazy kids who won't get off your lawn. Way to make them respect you, buddy.
