MMMM, I saw your last ask on anakin and the mass murder of the Tusken village and if you don't mind I would like to add an extra dimension, I too don't think the council would have done anything about the mass murder if it came out halfway through the war - not only was Anakin winning battles but he was also a VERY public figure with the now public backing of the Chancellor and I think if it did came out and they did nothing that it would emphasize how far they have fallen from their core morals BUT also I think this conversation is missing out a key player which is Padme
Cause Padme knows, she was the first one that Anakin confessed to and she did nothing and even at the end of ROTS refuses to believe that Anakin is anything but a redeemable still good man and I think that if it came out earlier that Anakin committed mass murder, she would also do nothing. She wouldn't come out and say yes this happened but rather I think she'd keep quiet and defend Anakin to her last breath and that would say SO MUCH - in addition to all the other bullshit the republic senators pull during the war - about how corrupted the Republic has become
That the two organizations that in theory should uphold the law and morality of the republic have both looked away from the mass murder committed by the hero of the republic
I'd agree yeah, I think they would've tried to cover it up somehow. Publicly at least. Like you said, at that point it'd have been all about public image and morale. And the Order was already struggling to keep it together then.
And even if Padme had snitched on him, cause he told her right away right? I don't think Obi Wan (cause I'm assuming that's the first person she'd go to) would have the emotional maturity, tbf I don't think anybody has the emotional maturity, to hear a family member committed mass murder. And would've probably either distanced himself emotionally or he'd have denied it like she did.
Palpatine was also one of the people who knew what Anakin did. Anakin must've told him sometime between ep 2 and 3 but idk when. Obviously Palpatine was confident enough that he could turn Anakin even as a Jedi. He did have the Order wrapped around his little finger, so getting him expelled would just be more work for him right?
Also I think in his fight with A'Sharad, Obi Wan hints that he knew about what happened, or that he vaguely knew Anakin did something horrible. If I remember correctly. Which is interesting indeed, if he did know
