Yeah, working in public health during a global pandemic was not very conducive to outside projects. 😭

BUT GOOD NEWS: Tonight I did the thing where i printed out the entire analog brain document for editing! (Things like cross-checking logic, clearing out redundant or repetitive sections, and getting all the bits and pieces in a somewhat reasonable order.)

Once I've made those changes, my plan is to upload a text-only Version 1.0 to AO3. Internal anchor links will be used to navigate around to the different sections. By doing so, there will be limited functionality, but it will GET THE ANALOG BRAIN OUT INTO THE WORLD finally

And then feedback will happen and the analog brain will learn and grow, and then we can plan for Version 2.0: Now With Slightly More Functionality!

ADHD Analog Brain Beta Testing begins today

If you signed up to be a beta tester for the ADHD Analog Brain, you should have received an email just now with the PDF of the Brain’s framework and instructions for providing feedback.

If you did not receive the email, no worries! I will put out a second call for beta testers once the first round of feedback has been received and implemented.

Hey! Don't mean to be annoying, but I was wondering how long it took you to logic out your analog brain? I keep trying and keep getting overwhelmed by all the uh. Things :0 and I keep worrying I'll miss something so I never start :| tysm for working on this project btw <3

Hi, no worries!

I did a large chunk of the analog brain while in a Hyperfocus Brain Hole. As a result I have no idea how long it took. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I then proceeded to chew on and ruminate the rest of it, which took several weeks of keeping it churning at the back of my mind and occasionally writing something down on a post-it.

The lucky thing is: since the analog brain isn't read in order, you can write it out a little at a time! You can keep adding answers to existing options, and then add the corresponding page further along in the book.

So like, I wound up with a bunch of pages that look like this:

As you can see, I didnt get to "How to deal with a panic attack" until page 43. But I just added it to the next blank page. Some of the options for dealing with a panic were already written out (as answers to other things), and then some I added in the same session as the panic attack page (like the grounding techniques on page 44), and then others I added even later.

So basically -- once you get started, it's pretty easy to come back and add more options and pages. You absolutely do NOT have to work all the logic out in one go!

Thanks for checking in! Thanks to the pandemic i have been working a LOT LOT LOT so many outside activities have fallen by the wayside.

However some Big Life Changes are coming up this fall, so hopefully at that point I will be able to shift focus back to the analog brain and get things rolling again.

I will post an update when things are back on the front burner, i promise!

update 2/12/20

Obvs, I have purchased the domain name adhdanalogbrain.com (it was like twenty bucks, no worries)

MORE IMPORTANTLY, I have started coding the browser version of the app using https://textadventures.co.uk/, and have sent the first 10 or so pages of the skip logic to a select group of nerds friends for initial feedback.

I have absolutely no idea what the timeline is for getting the public beta version out to you all to start playing with. As mentioned, I am a human being with ADHD and a dog and a sprained ankle [John Mulaney voice] so you can imagine the kind of stress I’m under.

Luckily, I flippin’ love coding. 

Also, I have set up a ko-fi account at  ko-fi.com/analogbrain. Not sure how I feel about the platform - it is awful pushy about signing up for a paid account, like, take a hint guise - but I’m giving it a shot. Once again, the analog brain app will be absolutely free and I do not need you to yeet money at me, but if you absolutely want to, you can.

@ everyone who liked the adhd external brain post

• I'm going to upload a spreadsheet version of the entire external brain (and also possibly a Word version) to Google Docs so I will share that once it's ready. You can download as-is or use it as a template to make your own

• I've found an online text-based RPG programmer I can use to make a browser-based game out of the external brain, which should make it *much* easier for y'all to use without having to brain your brain (I am a programmer, i am happy to do this for y'all, it'll keep me out of trouble).

▪︎ Oh and also I may be able to add images / gifs / video to the thing so that's pretty awesome, be prepared for cute puppy photos.

• I have added like 20 more pages to my book already so woohoo!
