murphy's law? no, Lando's law.

landos latest pit stops were

3.2s austria 4.64s silverstone 3.57s spa 4.83/4.5s zandvoort, and 5.9s monza 4.1s azerbaijan

at a race where his teammate broke the season record for fastest pit stop (1.91s), Lando has had his worst of the year. he effectively took a free 5 sec penalty. what is wrong with this team bro. I get that people are trying their hardest and things happen, but this is on another level. im not calling sabotage or anything, but this just isn't good enough bro.

considering Lando's radio message post race ("and Lando apologies about the stop" "...") and how he left relatively early, I hope some changes are coming. from his mechanical issues all season:

australia deployment issues austria deployment issues + battery not charging china brake failure (thank you for reminding me @/huntscunt) imola car falling apart inside spain more deployment issues spa power and battery issue zandvoort engine failure (or something related to the chassis)

to the slow pitstops, the World is Against Lando Norris no I don't care about British bias that doesn't exist, if it did, Sainz would've gotten ollie's penalty (many thoughts about that, too).

not to mention the set up changes in Bahrain between q2/3 and another race I can't remember off the top of my head, but changes during qualifying made it significantly harder for him to set a good lap.

also not to mention how he spent the first 1/3 of this year struggling to understand the new design of the car which just to happens to be more geared toward what piastri prefers to drive. from having a completely dominating season last year in terms of his own team (qualifying 20-4, race 16-8) with standout performances like Singapore and Abu Dhabi to now...this.

piastri's 'bad luck' or issues this season was Australia where he lost control (on his own accord) and finished only 9 or in Bahrain where his water wasn't working. bro

again I'm not crying sabotage, that would be an incredibly stupid thing to do and I would hope Mclaren wouldn't stoop to that level (what even is the purpose there) but I just think its so messed up. Zak brown said that they gave their drivers equal car and a fair chance to race, but Is it fair? is it fair when, despite having a car that doesn't fit him, Oscar is still studying Lando's data and benefitting from his bad luck? is it fair that Lando has repeated mechanical issues? is it fair that, in the event of a late safety car, Mclaren would've double stacked 4 and 81 so that Lando had to serve Piastri's 10 second time penalty, too? is it fair that Lando is repeatedly having issues during his pit stops that piastri just doesn't ever seem to encounter? is that fair? I don't think it's fair.

if Lando loses the world championship this year, then fine, the odds have been stacked against him since the first race. while his performance at some tracks hasn't been the most inspiring, I think, with what he's had and what he's worked with, this will still be one of Lando's best ever years. handling all the bad (and there's a lot of bad) with grace, always wishing the best for others & his teammate, taking the grievances of the team on his own shoulders, and never coming after piastri, always congratulating him, & saying he deserves what he's gotten so far this year.

lando norris i will never stop glazing you, but I will always be in awe of your sportsmanship and ability to bounce back. he hasn't changed for anyone despite the (many) criticisms he gets from fans, commentators, and Nico Rosberg each week. Lando Norris you are champion for reasons far beyond what some other competitors (and people !) could ever imagine.

piastri's free attitude pass

obviously this race (and the last) were not good for Oscar, and being a racing driver in the situation that he's in is not going to be easy and will, in fact, lead to moments of bad attitude which is completely fair, but its so frustrating when people pass it off. its the same as what happens with max: Oscar says or does something petulant and everyone calls him cunty and a diva but crucifies lando for much less.

people are calling this race piastri's "villain arc" and loving his behaviour of a) whining over the radio that what happened turn 3, lap 1 was unfair, insinuating he wanted to swap positions (because what is the point of saying its unfair to that degree?) and b) disconnecting the radio when Zak brown was congratulating him for the acc over the radio for the wcc.

sure, him going on the radio is such a non issue but his behaviour at the end of the race with Zak is such a petulant, disrespectful thing to do for someone who gave him that seat. we all remember what was happening with alpine at the time and Zak helped significantly to get Oscar out of alpine and into the McLaren seat. the same seat that has put him in contention for a wdc. if lando was acting like that, I would be humiliated to be his fan and im not sure why more people aren't annoyed by this. racing incidents happen, and they suck but that isn't an excuse to act like a child.

I don't know I feel like people are just glazing over this.

Adrian Chase and his mom

I could make endless posts about how I wish we knew just anything about Adrian's childhood (aside from that he has a brother and his father is gay) because I think that would lend itself to better characterisation but for now, I'll just make a near-baseless headcannon.

this stems from the idea that he resents her for how he was treated by gut, his lack of knowing how to treat his loved ones, and probably his father leaving, too.

firstly, lets discuss Adrian's relationship with gut chase. gut is his older brother that was originally chris' friend and is an original character for the peacemaker show. as far as we know, gut is alive and that him and Chris were relatively close, meaning he's likely around chris' age at 40. in ep8 s2, we find out that "[gut] really wasn't good to him" and that's pretty much all we know.

from this, I have inferred that gut was abusive, in some degree, to Adrian and he's grown resentful of his mom for not protecting him. I think this mostly for the fact that his mother coddles him so much. she lets this 30 something year old man live in her house without pestering him to move out and even plays so much dnd with him that she's a lvl 40 thief and she's letting him talk to her like that. whether this is because she's always been so non confrontational and just wants her son happy or because she feels bad for allowing gut (who is 9 ish years older than Adrian) to fuck around with him like he did I don't know, you read into what you like.

this idea that gut was abusive to Adrian works in conjunction with his and chris' relationship. seeing as Adrian likely never really had a good older brother figure in his life (or father figure), I imagine that he latched onto chris as something adjacent to that. whether because chris was not as cruel to him or because he was sort of the only choice, again, I don't know but knowing (inferring) how gut treated him and then going to chris who is on a less extreme side of that spectrum makes more sense why Adrian puts up with effectively being used for chris' own issues.

in constantly needing reassurance that someone likes him and he is wanted, chris unintentionally (probably) creates this dynamic with Adrian where they can both get what they want off each other. chris doesn't need to confront his own issues and self worth so long as Adrian is longing for that positive older brother figure in his life that can be manipulated (see adebayo).

I don't know if James gunn has ever thought at least a little deeply about Adrian's character so that probably wasn't intentional, but I think this interpretation works narratively better than just making Adrian sort of obsessed with chris because his brother was a little mean to him.

a sub point to this I suppose is also that his relationships with his loved ones (chris, his mom, gut, his father) are like quite shit. we know that he struggles particularly with understanding social cues and really I guess normal dynamics with people and, as a byproduct, his treatment of his mom is representative of how he doesn't have those 'normal' relationships with his loved ones.

whether he has aspd or autism, they both share relatively common symptoms that could explain him not being sensitive or respectful of others, aggression (aspd symptoms) or social communication and interaction issues and unusual emotional reactions (asd symptoms). despite these symptoms, people with these disorders are still able to form relationships that don't look like Adrian and his mom, so im assuming he (in conjunction with these symptoms) was just never really shown a good enough role model to give him some guidance on forming these relationships.

from the way gut, his older brother who was supposed to love and care for him, treats him to chris, his supposed best friend who lets him believe that his father is only gay to get away from him, Adrian has no proper role model. speaking of, I think his father not being around also acts as another factor of why he's seemingly unable to form and understand when relationships aren't healthy, because he hasn't seen a healthy relationship specifically in his parents probably ever.

I will say, his unusual emotional reaction to his father not being gay in earth x speaks to the fact that he probably doesn't overly care about his father so I won't focus much on him outside of the fact that Adrian's resentment could also come from his father leaving. im not 100% into this because there just isn't much evidence at al, but it could very much just be like a hidden thing he's largely not come to terms with yet (BECAUSE HE'S GAY) but I don't want to rule it out entirely.

all of this is to say that Adrian's treatment of his mother likely stems from some internalised issues made worse by how gut and chris have been treating him. I think he has the potential to be such an interesting character but was used just as like comedic foil for chris and the general seriousness of the show.

or I mean he could just be a dick idk. treat your mothers well, folks (unless they don't deserve it)
