I'm a female and when I started playing League everyone was nice to me and wanted to talk to me. That encouraged me to train hard and analyze high elo games on a daily basis. When I got to plat, bronze and silver players I stumbled upon were negative towards me - calling me 'f*king egirl', commenting my every move and flooding chat with insults. Friends got angry when I declined to boost them. I don't talk to anyone anymore. I prefer improvement to fake friendships.
