Prompt #10: Foster
It was a quiet night. It may have been dark, but it wasn't pitch black; the moon shone brightly, bathing everything in a silvery light. In the distance, one could see a large Sea Wolf and a smaller Keeper grin and sing drunkenly to the tune of a travelling bard; the two had become friends a few days earlier. Their baritone voices carried far, far enough for yet a smaller presence to hear.
The lalafell was meditating in a meadow when she heard their voices. She was annoyed, and distrustfull of drunks in general; but she had stood beside them in battle, saved them when they needed her, and she had felt a certain kinship with them. They had been a more agreeable company than usual.
Observing all this was yet another Sea Wolf, a woman this time. She was deep in thought, and yet deeper in loneliness. She wished she could foster a friendship, or friendships, with this new-found company. She wished for her old friends back, certainly, but above all did she wish for her loneliness to subside.
She reflected to the last time they were together. She had been aloof, stoic, created distance between them; and yet, they found eachother again and again, with no rational inspiration. She hoped that they would give her another chance, to be less distanced this time.
