you were born with spiritsight, a very rare gift that allows you to witness non-corporeal entities as they exist upon our mortal realm. one night as a little girl, your village was attacked by imperial forces, and your parents were put to the sword while you hid under their bed. you then watched as a soultaker of the underworld came to claim them. you begged it not to, and the soultaker made you a deal. it could not spare your parents, but it could mark you and thus prevent you from ever being claimed. in doing so, your dark benefactor imbued you with necromantic powers, a command over the ebb and flow of life energies that you now wield with artful mastery. thus armed, you are functionally immortal, and can sustain yourself upon the siphoned vitality of your foes on your quest for revenge. the balance of the deal includes sending any souls you claim to your underworld ally, but you are only too happy to send them on as you cut a black swath through the empire on your way to justice.
