GIVE ME A HOME UNDER THE FLIGHT PATH, 2018

Influence: Pipilotti Rist
Rist’s comical cover of Wicked Game from 1995 is proving to be influential for my decision to try to record part of a cover of a song for my final project.
Sydenham Green & Tempe: Documentation
Details and contextual photographs shot on location.
#5 Tempe: Safe Travels
Filmed on the edge of the runway perimeter in Tempe. Short and sillier experiment treating the planes as friendly - “enjoy your flight”! Almost got hit by a truck during the filming of this by accidentally stepping out onto the road to the storage container yard (oops), but of course the camera shut off (such has been the luck of the day).
#4 Sydenham: Home under the Gum trees
Trying to get some footage of Home under the gum trees with aircraft noise. Naturally during this sitting, a large couple of planes took off before filming, and once filming began, all planes taking off curved off to the right, thus avoiding flying over my head and into shot! It also felt much better playing around with a D7000 and a tripod instead of handheld phone this time. Headed off to Tempe after this attempt at shooting (most of which was garb, there were the most useful bits) to try to catch heaven forbid, an actual plane, on camera.
Sydenham Green: Documentation
Measuring the decibels of a plane going over, and figuring out angles and locations for filming. The grassy knoll was more suited with the precise location of the planes flight path compared to the homage to the houses which was a little more off to the side and in shade (maybe will try the morning at peak time?).
#3 Sydenham: Talking & Music + Planes
Looking at speaking normally, and trialling a couple of songs. Especially considering the implication that people who arrive on planes have arrived the ‘right’ way, thus Consider Yourself from Oliver! seemed an appropriate song choice. Also realised that the planes are landing not taking off, so John Denver doesn’t quite fit as perfectly.
#2 Sydenham: Shouting at Plane
Laura + megaphone (which I forgot to turn on first few takes - ha!). It has some humorous, ludicrous effect I’m liking the feel of, despite the awkwardness of carrying out such an act in a public park scattered with people (not too many, but still).
