just thought id message you to let you know that that article about stephen moffat is the most twisted backwards BULLSHIT ever. they take all of what he says and make it seem like hes a horrible person. seriously if you click on any of the sources you can see how they're taking what he said and putting it into a context they want it to fit in. don't lose faith in moffat, hes a great writer and not such an awful person that people make him out to be.
hi there friend! i appreciate that you sent me this message. however, i lost faith in moffat many moons ago, first as a writer and then as a person. as a huge fan of dw when series 5 began, i was super excited to see where moffat would take the show.
since then i have ceased watching entirely. series 5 had some interesting things in it, but i found river song irritating, and the stories and writing just weren’t as gripping as i expected from moffat. by the time series 6 rolled around i could feel my interest slipping, and then i kind of stopped watching altogether. i did still enjoy sherlock s1 and s2 (not caught up with s3 yet but not really feeling it so far), though i encountered a lot of very good commentary on things wrong with it, like the depiction of irene adler. i didn’t get word of his extensive sexism and other unpleasant traits until later.
i will admit to not reading the article i reblogged in-depth—however, if you would take a look at this page, i hope you are able to see why i’m inclined to believe it without fact checking. the page is a very good list of some of the things moffat has said, with their context linked to and explained. if this were a single incident i don’t think this “moffat is disgusting” train would have gained the steam it has, but he’s been very consistent in his disrespect of women and flagrant disregard for anything non-heterosexual (and i really do hope you read those things he has said as the absolutely damaging and problematic things they are). i think he has very poisonous viewpoints and no interest whatsoever in altering them, which is dangerous enough in itself, but he’s also in this huge seat of influence, writing for two extremely popular shows. danger, will robinson! danger!
on a personal level i don’t like how his female characters all seem to revolve around the one male hero—amy, the girl who waited (for the doctor)—river song’s ENTIRE arc to my understanding consists of her not having a life or purpose outside of the doctor—irene adler’s obsession with sherlock to the point of her own destruction. it’s a worrying trend. it’s not something to be encouraged or lauded. the page i linked also talks about these three women in particular a little bit at the bottom and explains them more coherently than i’m doing here.
so that is why i am not a fan of moffat.
