I want a hedgehog sooo bad now, but they're illegal in California, but my question was how do you know if they have become overweight? Since they're a round cute ball of fluffiness. How do you know what's their healthy weight?
The most important thing is body shape. If you look at the hedgehog from above, the sides need to be a bit like this | | instead of too round ( ) or too skinny ) ( . Of course every hedgehog has a different body shape, and some of them are just skinnier or broader than others. Another thing is the amount of fat; an overweight hedgehog's belly is a bit too fluffy and you can often see fat "hanging" behind the front legs and as a hump between the shoulder blades. Some overweight hedgehogs aren't able to ball up fully any more, but that's really extreme.
