Moderator's note ... ✨
Hello! I am kiburi, one of the Realism Haven moderators. I am delighted to be part of the RH staff team; I joined during its humble beginnings and can confidently say that the server has grown exponentially, in both size and opportunity. Every week we are working on and adding new features to enrich our members' experience. This community is the most friendly and creative I have ever known, hence our slogan “sentire singularem solis ardorem” “feel the unique warmth of the sun”. If you are interested in joining us, I can attest that you will be met with incredible kindness and creativity :)

Bison antiquus Late Pleistocene (approx. 10,000 years ago)
Anoka County, Minnesota.
23 inches (58.4 cm) from front to back, 26 inches (66 cm) from horn tip to horn tip. 22½ inches tall on custom stand.
A direct ancestor of today's modern American bison, Bison antiquus roamed the continent from Alaska to Mexico until their extinction around 10,000 years ago.
This extinct species of bovine grew to be a quarter larger than extant bison, reaching sizes of nearly eight feet tall, 15 feet (4.6 meters) long, and tipping the scales at upwards of 3,500 pounds (1,588 kg). As such, this specimen—unearthed in the 1980s from a Late Pleistocene peat bog deposit—represents one of the largest megafauna icons ever seen on the North American continent.
Okay, I was not going to spam Tumblr with vacation pictures - especially this account - but I’m here and I’m putting pictures up places and I just......can we talk about the dead things for a minute? Because seriously - DEAD THINGS! Just look at them all and how neat and intricate and someone dug them up and cleaned them out and there’s a place you can sit and watch people doing just that and it is awesome! So awesome! And those last two pictures? That exhibit has been there since I was five. That was freakin’ 1984 and it was still there and I was just so happy!
