The Rhyme of The Ancient Madder. Or, for God’s sake don’t let your wife pick out your tie.
As usual, our favorite blogger @culturaloffering sets the conversation topics today . This morning he nudges us to dress like adults and put a tie on.
I’m cheerfully retired, and being from New Jersey I wear Fila tracksuits and abundant Paco Rabanne cologne.
But if you’re still working, there’s nothing like a suit to convey a sense of purpose in the workplace. And, unless you’re an Iranian diplomat, a suit is worn with a tie.
Here’s where you guys make a mistake. A well chosen necktie contributes to your image as a competent businessman. Unless you’re at your club, one doesn’t choose theme ties (animals that symbolize whimsical bawdy sayings), or acquiesce to your wife’s preferences for a tie with a “color that really pops”. Really pops? The fuck does that do for you? Makes you look like a frat boy. Oh yeah, DJT’s shiny numbers are pure Ghetto Fabulous. From the Bridge and Tunnel Collection if you get the reference.
Your tie choice should convey competence and gravitas. There’s no better choice than the muted elegance of Ancient Madder silk ties for business dress. The chalky hand of ancient madder silk is like that of no other tie.
The hippies in Europe have evidently regulated the way this silk is washed, so true ancient madder ties are less common today. Check what Drakes is offering or look at Kent Wang, or ask David at Sam Hober. Bargains abound on the Bay, look for old Press or Brooks Brothers and remember to look at the width.
You know what really pops? Earning a raise.
