So, @ancient-timelord tagged me into this. I’m not the most interesting human being, but here’s my answers to the Doctor Who tag. I haven’t seen much Classic Who, so all these answers are about New Who. I’ll try and keep it fun!
When did you start watching Doctor Who?
About two years ago. My friends kept going on and on about it. I was already into Sherlock, and they said that if I liked that, I’d love Doctor Who. I kept saying I’d never watch it, because it sounded dumb, plus they kept giving away spoilers. (I already knew all about River and the Master, and all that.) But of course, one day I got bored, and this was back when my homework only took an hour to do, so I looked up Doctor Who online; started at “Rose” and never looked back!
Who’s your favourite Doctor?
Ten(nant). Of the four New Who Doctors I’ve seen, I feel I can relate to the Tenth the most. I love everything about him— he’s fun to cosplay(I own both the red converse and the cream ones, and it’s not a coincidence that my glasses are shaped like his brainy specks), he’s hilarious, witty, sarcastic, “and a little bit foxy, too…” I feel like Ten embodies every aspect of the Doctor through the ages, like, you can find a little bit of each Doctor of the other 12 Doctors(including War Doctor) in him, something that you can’t really say about the others.
Who’s your favourite companion?
They say you never forget your first Doctor? Well you never forget your first companion, either; Rose is my first and favourite. Not just because I ship her and 10 like FEDEX ships packages, but I legitimately love her character. She’s spunky, she’s adventurous, she’s rebellious, she’s strong— if she wasn’t as perfect as she was, the show wouldn’t have been the hit that it was back in 2005, and we wouldn’t be having this conversation. I mean, yes, she’s problematic, as so many are apt to point out, but any person who’s willing to risk inter-dimensional travel to a) save the universe, and b) go back for the one they love is cool with me. Plus, I mean, I wouldn’t want to mess with a woman who’s barely an adult who can handle the full power of the Vortex…
Which is your favourite episode?
Honestly, I hate this question. I love any episode that has 10 in it, I love most of Clara’s episodes, The Day of the Doctor was incredibly problematic, but common, we all wanted to see 11 and 10 in the same room… I really don’t know.
Favourite season?
Again, I hate this question. But I love Season Two, because Rose and Ten are both in it, and really, every episode was good. “Love and Monsters” which is by far my least favourite of the season, is still better than some of the recent stuff. (You might be able to tell that I’m anti-Moffat. He did well with Sherlock, but he’s really doing funky stuff to Doctor Who, and the only reason 12’s era is any better is because Capaldi’s such a good fan himself. I know you Moffat-fans out there are angry now. Come at me.) I like Season Four too, because TBH, nothing beats Donna Nobel’s sass.
What kind of companion would you be?
Well, if I was a part- time companion, I’d be the one who sneaks out of my life for a moment to help save the world, or whatever. But if we’re talking full time? Honestly, I’m a pretty curious person, and I can easily get into trouble because of my curiosity, and all that, and yeah, I wander off, but I usually am good at following directions. And I’m not so bad at figuring stuff out myself. I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t annoy the Doctor too much, as long as he told me what I wanted to know about what planet. I don’t know if the TARDIS would like me though— I’ve never been the best with tech.
Favourite monster/villain.
Definitely The Master/Missy. (S)he is classic in every sense of the term, (s)he satisfies everything you’d expect in an evil master mind. His/her relationship with the Doctor is so complex, and so interesting to trace. The actors that have played him/her have all played him/her in such a great way, and as much as Harold Saxon is my favourite, I cannot wait to see more of Missy in season Nine, and I really hope the drum beat theme comes back.
