Calling all road trippers and cyclists! Look ahead to warmer months and better driving conditions by planning some day trips along Iowa's Ancient Trails! Between 1833 and 1861, the General Land Office (GLO) mapped 6,830 miles of trails in Iowa. The northern 42 counties of Iowa contained 437 trails measuring 1,590 miles. We estimate that about 15% of these trails survive. You can check out eight different tours along these ancient trails, created by OSA thanks to a grant from the Iowa Department of Transportation. Don't forget to tag us along your tour stops, share your trip on social media, and tag #iowatrails to link in with all of the other fantastic trail explorations across the state!
