Im also south african and i agree, if you turn to ANN7 you see them reporting the story but speaking about "the violence against the police" instead of the real issues, and also CNN is also pissing me off with little to no coverage.
This is such a large issue I have with the media. They are constantly painting us (students) as the bad guys and the hooligans when all we are going is peacefully protest for a human right we deserve. I want people to understand the police brutality against us from the hand of the government. That the government is what needs to fall. How can they ignore our demands when we are the very future of this country? When the current power of the country moves on? Who is gonna help this country grow?
It irritates me even more that we get little to no coverage WORLDWIDE. People are busy worrying about rugby when this is happening. This is no longer just a education issue. We are being OPPRESSED and EXPLOITED and the government simply doesnt give two shits. If our government will not listen to us, then having international recognition might help. Jacob Zuma needs to see that this behavior is unacceptable not only on a national level but on an international level. People of the world should not stand for this kind of bullshit.
If we have a mere change of face of those in governing positions what is likely to happen is that black people will continue to be poor, and you will see a few blacks filtering through into the so-called bourgeoisie... So for meaningful change to appear there needs to be an attempt at reorganising the whole economic pattern and economic policies within this particular country.
