of course !! but i assume u have to make some deliverables in order to secure funding. or does your funding come from people who think this is yknow. for regular degular fauna?

"Ah, the financial aspect- While I don't handle the major dealings of such, I do have my hands in a part of it. ANCR does make a portion of its money from false fundraising, yes, but most of it is made through other means."

anomalies are cool (i would know) and all but does the ANCR really serve any practical purpose? :/

"ANCR serves plenty of purposes, but the obvious would be that the most dangerous objects, beasties, and critters are all locked away and unable to cause harm to the public masses."

"Losses are indeed incurred while doing what we do, but always less than there would be otherwise. It almost seems noble, doesn't it?"

"Mind you, Spec, I don't really have an investment in that part of things. I'm simply a curious individual by nature who delights in learning about these wondrous and peculiar things."

"So long as I get to pursue my interests, the practicalities are only a bonus aspect to me."

Kit, do you ever see yourself moving on from working at ANCR, or is this the kind of career you think you'd like to work with long-term? Does the danger of the work ever make you question it?

"You know, it's hard to say. I didn't come here thinking it would be a lifelong position, but... well, I just don't really know what I'd be doing otherwise. Everything else just seems so bland and soul-sucking in comparison now.

I mean, what, I could train dogs? Write papers on animal behaviors that no one will read? Or be a regular-shmegular psychiatrist?

Like... now that I know what's inside these walls, how could I leave? What else could make me feel as important? As engaged? I just can't think of much. And isn't that worth a bit of risk?"

"That's not to say I'll never leave. I don't know what kinds of twists and turns my life will take. Maybe the risk will become too much. Maybe I will find something that compels me more. Who's really to say? For as much as I love my work here, if I found another opportunity that called to me... I would probably go. I'm young, after all. It would be silly to just... DECIDE this is where I'm going to be for the rest of my life, right?

I want to keep an open mind about it, I suppose, and not close my eyes to potential opportunities. But also, it's hard to imagine something better than this, aha. I kind of feel like I won the job lottery."

"Ah! Indeed, I do. (And it's good to know you're someone I can trust, too.)

I wouldn't say Bex and myself are particularly close, but I think he's quite funny! Incredibly smart, as well. He's well-earned his place here, just like everyone."

What work DID you do before ANCR, Kit? Also.. What about this place drew you in.. like, what was the appeal? the pay, the moral duty, the science...?

"Oh, I was a student before this. It was just a random opportunity that popped up for me, due to my skillset. You can't even begin to imagine how thrilled and flattered I was to be specifically invited.

I wouldn't say it was any one particular thing that drew me in, though. I just didn't want to waste this once in a lifetime opportunity!

Have you seen some of them? The anomalies?

I mean, I can't be the only one who thinks that some of the big monsters we keep here are kind of..."

He adjusts his glasses.

"... They're kind of...

... I just like admiring them, you know?"

Behavioral studies are neat! same with psych! But are those what you do for real or is that just unrelated cover story stuff, Kit? I should clarify, of course- I've been a long-time background supporter of ANCR and am associated with + cleared by Dr. Doxiou, Kausil, and Glimra. I know abt the monsters,

"Aahh, my bad, my bad. It's hard for me to remember every face that I can speak plainly with. You'll have to forgive me."

"Honestly, it's not too far from the truth, though. I still do behavioral studies, just more for anomalies than animals. It's my job to learn all about how they work, from a more psychological standpoint, rather than a biological one.

Half of my work is collaborating with Glim to create a comfortable environment for the anomalies, catering to their wants and needs to make them feel secure enough to exhibit their natural behaviors. The other half is introducing various sorts of stimuli in order to trigger reactionary behaviors. I usually do not begin the latter work until I have a good bit of data from the former, as not all anomalies will fully forgive my... gentle prodding."

Kitsui, random question, but do you know anything about your ancestors?

"What a funny way to phrase it. Ancestors. Plural. Usually, people ask in the singular. You seem to know more than you let on with that 'random' question, aha.

Well, I am a Hidaka, so its quite obvious that I'm related to one Yahiro Hidaka. From what I know, he's a lawyer, one of the most expensive in the business... And one of the more divisive ones, even as far as lawyers go.

And I do indeed know my other largest genetic contributor. I got curious once upon a time and took a test. Another infamous figure, Kizien Helzir. Violet. Fleet. Genetics and biology. It's a wonder how I ended up so well-adjusted."

"Most of my traits make sense given my genetic donors, but I've always wondered where my hydrokinesis comes from... I suppose not all psionic abilities have to be passed down from somewhere, but it is curious, given that it's technically not classified as a psionic ability..."

"Aah but what do I know? Am I overthinking it...?"

Understandable. Tell me a bit about some of the people you work with most often, if you don’t mind! The ones you have to worry most about, the ones you worry least about, that sort of thing

"It's a big facility. Even just trying to list the trolls I see most often will have me accidentally leaving some off. But I'll try."

He rubs his chin in thought, giving a deep, rumbly hum.

"Mm... I don't have to much worry about Vezros, for obvious reasons. Locke not too much, either. Bexrin may be troublesome in a different way, but I typically don't have to worry about him getting hurt. Dr. Hidaka shockingly follows protocols, and typically waits to be escorted into chambers, so he isn't someone I worry too hard about, either.

Amtrin and Dr. Sigură, on the other hand, DO worry me. They think that just because they have their fancy abilities, that they can come and go from the chambers as they please. It's going to get one of them killed some day, or worse, leave an opening for the anomalies to escape.

Between the two, I'm more concerned about Dr. Sigură though, since he has intentionally let himself get hurt to avoid hurting the anomalies, more than once. Doesn't he know he's more valuable than those things?"
