i came across that microsoft ignite announcement video on twitter again, and i gotta say, i get that the part where they describe themselves (red shirt, woman, etc) is probably for people with visual impairments and if that kind of thing is something people with visual impairments find useful and meaningful (i want to hear it from them) i’m not opposed to it. BUT i would hate being expected to announce my race. i’m biracial and i’ve been asked what race i am many times from people i’ve just met. it’s irritating. i don’t mind talking about my heritage when it’s a relevant topic of discussion with people i actually know but why tf does someone i just met need to know my racial background?? it’s rude to ask people you don’t know that. it shouldn’t matter what race anyone is, you should treat them with the same decency you give to everyone. don’t make people announce their race. it just further highlights race as a category that can be used to separate people.
my worst fear on this website is to say the word 'cis' and get asks of people asking me what 'cis' means
