Dakota has no idea where he came from. He knows he was “adopted”, knows it wasn’t strictly legal, but that’s about all he knows. He didn’t even know werewolves were real until he was about twelve and shifted for the first time. That had come easy, a response to abuse more than anything, and he had ended up killing his adoptive parents before bolting.
His birth mother was a werewolf that went by the name Claire. No one really knows if it was her real name or not. His father was a man named Coltrane. He hadn’t known Claire was a were when he bedded her, but he definitely found out during when she ripped him up with her claws and left him for dead.
He survived.
By the time he had caught back up to her, she had ditched the kid, basically sold him for a couple hundred dollars. It hadn’t been a lie when she told Coltrane that she had gotten rid of his little bastard and the kid was as good as dead.
She did not walk away from that encounter.
Dakota doesn’t know he has living siblings. Doesn’t know about Talyse and Cian in New York or William out in Nevada. He’s sort of a drifter, mostly living in eastern Kentucky.
Despite his upbringing, he’s a pretty upbeat kind of guy. Goes out of his way to help people, makes sure he’s not in any populated areas around the full moon, take precautions with most of the things he does.
He’s currently working as a cook at some greasy spoon diner. It doesn’t pay the best, but he mostly lives off grid anyway. Solar panels for electricity, wood burning stove for heat, rain water filtration system. He likes his life. He’s safe.
