i am, as my mother says, tore up from the floor up.
Applied Thaumaturgy
Shrill tones jarred Kristof awake. Eight in the morning, shrieking phone. He gave a cursory glance at the screen-Principles of Applied Thaumaturgy Exam, Nine A.M.-before thumbing it and quieting the device. He began to drift off again before the meaning filtered through layers of exhaustion. Princles of Applied...
Did he have that class? He had never been to it. Kristof jolted up and out of bed and stumbled, half-wrapped in sheets, to his desk. Scrambling, he tore free his class schedule from a sheaf of other school papers. There. All of his classes, in order. No need to panic.
At the top, Environmental Pyromancy, noon. Mana Management 102, two o'clock. Math for the Pyromantic Mage. Five p.m. Wednesdays only. And there, at the bottom, written in Kristof's own hand: Principles of Applied Thaumaturgy, nine a.m. He could not remember even meeting a Professor Rita Thunderstone. Heart pounding panic in his chest, Kristof dressed and hurried out of his, walking double-pace to the campus. He entered the Thaumaturgical Studies building stiffly, willing his limbs to move without trembling. This was it. He was going to fail this class- there was no comng back from a semester of missed assignments. He would never get his degree in Cataclysmic Magecraft. His parents would not be angry, necessarily, but he could imagine their response. His father's fragile but sincere smile. His mother's voice, calm and measured as ever, telling him that he could manage in anything he wished. They were never anything but encouraging. Supportive. And yet, Kristof had-
Never been in this building before. The hallways branched off in a dozen directions from the central hub he now stood in. Other studies hurried through unnoticing. Turning to find the door he had entered from, Kristof found only a blank wall.
"No," Kristof said, almost falling as he stumbled backwards. His heart thudded in his chest. A voice, muffled but coming from everywhere said his name. Again and again. Louder. Louder.
A sharp pain in his cheek. Kristof sank to his knees but the floor had become a rushing river-
Kristof awoke in cold sweat, gasping for breath. His cheek was held pinched between two slender fingers. Grogilly, he looked up into Aeshma's delicately tattooed face. Kristof said, "Wuh?"
"You were having a bad dream, darling," she said, patting his cheek fondly and rolling over now that Kristof was no longer thrashing beside her. Yes, Kristof thought. A bad dream, and his wife had- wife?
Kristof woke again, more carefully this time, peeking one eye open, then the other. There were no emergencies, no one else in the room but him. Nothing on fire. No classes to worry about- Kristof had never even considered college. Cautiously, he picked up his phone, its bright screen stinging his eyes in the darkened room.
"Kristof." The voice on the other end said, before he could even mutter out a greeting, or his prepared apology. Aeshma, sounding not at all tired, but very irritated. "Did you know that there are spells that can only be cast at four in the morning, and that there is only one four in the morning every day?"
"I-" he said.
"Did you know that you have interrupted my four in the morning five times this week? Was it the school dream again?"
"Yeah," he said. He pinched the bridge of his nose, preparing for the incoming lecture.
"You know, Kristof, if you just apologized..."
"I'll apologize to that jerkoff when I'm dead in the ground," Kristof said, teeth bared in a grimace.
"Fine. Stay cursed, but stop calling me about it." Aeshma ended the call from her side.
why am I still awake
There really is no good reason.
school makes me so tired, I'm so tired all the time and I never have any motivation to just do my homework right away...can summer come back now?
I know it's getting to late for me to be doing homework when I start using scrabble words like "endeavor".
