WARNING: Spoilers to 'Floor 15: Shadows Over Sugarland' and 'Starless Night: Buttermilk Cookie's Story'.
There are so many things about Buttermilk Cookie begin to make sense if we just assume that he's a child. I mean,
Changes mood easily (all these sprites go one after another in one scene);
Gets angry easily when someone recalls his 'mistakes' or puts him below;
Cruelty and malice when he has an advantage (especially over his offenders);
Easily manipulated and lacks critical thinking (he's guided by gossip and rumors, even without solid evidence of things, and just started listening to Melanchream Cookie cuz she was telling him what to do);
Easily inspired by the opportunity to brag (especially in front of authority figures);
And this whole situation with Star Dust. He doesn't think twice about methods of solution and chooses the simplest one. And he even has no excuse of his actions cuz he doesn't understand what he's doing wrong. He just wanna stay in Order, there's nothing wrong with that, right? So he hopes Lemon Curd Cookie will understand and give him a chance… He didn't.
And his next move is to curl up in corner and cry. Cuz he doesn't know how to deal with this situation. He has nothing left, becoming a Knight was the purpose of his life and now, when he has lost his purpose what should he do? He doesn't know, no one told him what to do if this idea didn't succeed. So he just does the simplest thing he can: goes againt 'fate' (ask him what it means, I'm sure he won't answer cuz well, it is too vague).
In the dry residue, he's literally a sheltered child who entered society for the first time and was immediately corrupted by envy. Cuz his family didn't give him any social education except wrong thoughts like 'chosen one' and 'special Cookie'. He has almost no socialization even in Order, Lemon Curd Cookie is literally the only one Cookie he talks to. And those conversations… well.
He doesn't even know how to react to stress so his resentment and offense easily develop into anger and a desire to hurt in return. Especially, when an authority figure he respected did it first. Well, it's really not Lemon Curd Cookie's fault, he has no duty to babysitting others' children, but the situation itself is still…
P.S. I kinda tried to do the character analysis, but… it mostly turned into babblering. Well, I tried. Maybe I'll do it later (but it's not certain).
