What was the straw so to speak that spoke the camels back? What transphobic line did Ru cross? I see a lot of content out there- like RuPaul has always been considered transphobic perhaps with not as tangible evidence, just wondering what happened?
Personally I have always had a strong distaste for RuPaul and his transphobia, but if you’re asking why I think people are only taking notice and making noise now? I honestly think the reason is that before it didn’t affect them, before when RuPaul said disgusting things like “The only difference between a drag queen and a trans woman is $10,000 and a good surgeon”, that was obviously abhorrent but I think to most cis fans it didn’t really matter because the worst they’d have to do is grit their teeth through that part of the show or whatever.
But now, when RuPaul is literally saying “queens with tiddies are too trans to be on the show”, it actually DOES affect the fans, even the cis ones, because that means RuPaul would, for example, not let sickening queens like Peppermint or Gia or Jiggly back for an all starts season because they’re “too trans”. Worse, it means had Peppermint not auditioned for the show until after she had her boobs, they never would have let her on. RuPaul’s transphobia is now directly standing in the way between the fans and their entertainment, and I think that’s why this time people actually care.
That, and the fact that so many queens from seasons past have since come out as trans, like Gia and Jiggly, and continued to awesome stuff with their drag career, the issue is more at the front of people’s minds.
