Sul Circuito di Anderstorp la vittoria di Niki Lauda al volante di una monoposto controversa, la Brabham BT46B soprannominata 'Fan Car' per via di un grosso ventilatore montato nel retrotreno ufficialmente con lo scopo di raffreddare il motore Alfa Romeo anche se il suo scopo principale fu quello di sfruttare al meglio l'effetto suolo schiacciando la vettura sull'asfalto. Il dominio della nuova monoposto della scuderia di Bernie Ecclestone fu parzialmente mascherato durante le qualifiche imbarcando un quantitativo maggiore di benzina. Partito dalla terza posizione sulla griglia di partenza, Lauda guadagnó subito il secondo posto tallonando il poleman Mario Andretti salendo poi in testa alla corsa approfittando di un testacoda dell'italo-americano nel corso del 39°giro. Il pilota austriaco dominó poi la seconda parte della gara tagliando il traguardo con 34 secondi di vantaggio su Riccardo Patrese (al suo primo podio in F1) e all'idolo di casa Ronnie Peterson, autore di una furiosa rimonta dal sedicesimo posto dove era scivolato per via di una foratura nei primi giri arrivando a ridosso della Arrows del pilota padovano nel finale.
