I am so grateful that Terri decided to make TJ a whole new character to the show, and not simply Cyrus' last minute boyfriend. They didn't make it clear from the beginning that he was a romance device, unlike Jonah who was clearly a love interest from his first scene- TJ was Buffy's rival and kind of an arsehole tbh. But Terri made him work for the audience's approval- he had to grow and develop on screen and we watched him become a better person- good enough for Cyrus aka pure bean #101. And even when tyrus began hanging out, although there were hints, really their friendship bloomed from scratch and romantic feelings developed later on. If I had to guess, I'd say it wasn't until the "there's nothing wrong with you" scene that their romantic connection started becoming pretty clear. Basically hats off to Andi Mack for taking this route with this story. I know a lot of people complain about how cautious they are being, but I am actually really glad that we are forced to wait and watch their feelings develop. It makes it feel genuine and not too rushed, as young love often is. I'm just devastated that we won't be able to see them in a relationship after all this time but at least Disney is caving the way for future LGBTQ plots
