For not the first time, Ember silently praised her power. It allowed her mobility and escape - both physical and emotional. Luckily for her, she wouldn’t be running alone either. Marigold had accepted Ember’s invitation for a quick trip across the world almost instantly but then again, Ember couldn’t blame her. There was nowhere Ember wouldn’t run if she had been married on Lugnasad. It was a silent fear of hers every holiday.
Still, the marriage of Forest and Marigold had surprised her nonetheless. She had known the two were friends but if there had been more to it, she hadn’t picked up on it. It might have not been their intent but there had been a certain tenderness between the two during marriage, something gentle. She’d silently observed the small smile Marigold had given Forest and in her closed off heart, Ember had wished for nothing more in that moment than for Marigold to be happy. Ember might not have been allowed the soft life she so desired but Marigold could.
Frowning, she silently chastised herself for being so negative and introspective. With a reproachful scowl on her face, Ember drained the contents of her wine glass and stood. Even for the surprise, it was a celebration and the guardian was determined to make sure it was a good one.
She poked her head inside the open apartment from her position on the balcony, scanning for said friend. “Mari! Are you almost ready?” She whined over the sounds of the street below, attempting to keep her voice at an even pitch to not disturb the breathing city. “I haven’t even given you the bride lingerie yet.”
