the brotherband modern AU that was only vaguely mentioned by @brotherbandchronicles but im doing it anyway because nobody can stop me
mostly just worldbuilding and backstory notes rn
Lydia is a bitter english major
the brotherband instructors from book 1 are overworked gen ed professors
Zavac is a drug lord and also the new chemistry professor
Jesper lived with Zavac for like a year when he was in high school and honestly it was a real bad time for everyone
Thorn and Karina got married when Hal was about twelve, he and Lydia are step-siblings (Thorn adopted Lydia when she broke into his house at the age of eight to steal food)
Stig’s dad is in jail where he belongs
Karina is a restaurant owner and head chef, she will fight you with a frying pan
(Edvin was her protege but then he went to medical school so he doesn’t have Time)
Jesper has five siblings, he’s the oldest, and he has made a Lot of questionable decisions in his life to protect and provide for them, since his mom died and they didn’t have a father
Hal is constantly sleep deprived
Jesper looked up when Stig entered the kitchen. “Is Hal awake?” he asked, trying for nonchalance and achieving only desperation.
Stig glanced at the textbook in front of him – intro to chemistry. “You have a quiz today, don’t you?”
“Is that a yes?” Jesper asked hopefully, taking a long sip of the energy drink that was siting precariously close to the edge of the table.
Stig shook his head, pulling down a box of cereal. “I think he just got in. He fell asleep when I left.”
Jesper frowned. “I’ve been up for an hour, I didn’t see him come in.”
Stig shrugged, pouring himself a bowl and accidentally splashing milk on the counter. “You’re running on what, four hours of sleep? Probably missed him.”
“Two and a half,” Jesper corrected. He blinked. “You’re probably right.”
Stig snickered into his cereal. “You have the same chemistry professor as he does, right? Professor –” he wracked his brain for a moment to come up with the name, “Anders?”
“Andrak,” Jesper corrected. “Why?”
“Rest in peace,” Stig said solemnly, taking a bite. He grimaced – the milk was on the edge of going sour. “Apparently he’s been replaced.”
The look of dismay on Jesper’s face was almost comical. “What?” he wailed. “In the middle of the semester?”
Jesper promptly faceplanted into the middle of his textbook. “Who’s the replacement?” he asked – or so Stig assumed. It was a little hard to tell.
Stig shrugged again. “No idea. Hal didn’t say.”
Jesper’s response was muffled. He’d slammed his face back into his textbook with enough force to send his energy drink crashing to the floor.
Stig finished his cereal in a few quick bites. “You’re cleaning that up.”
