Scrabble Typography Edition
Last year Andrew Capener designed a stunning Scrabble set with a minimalist walnut game board and tile pieces featuring a mix of gorgeous fonts. He basically made a Wes Anderson/board game lover's wet dream.
Gizmodo is reporting that there was so much positive feedback surrounding the prototype that Hasbro "teamed up with a high-end licensee called Winning Solutions to put the Scrabble Typography Edition into production."
In August, Capener's design will be available in two versions, a premiere set matching Andrew's original walnut creation for $200, and a cheaper $50 version which uses mass-produced materials to save on costs, but still features the same look and feel.
REVELATION
I've been the artist liaison officer for Parlor Hawk all week (more updates on this soon) and it's been amazing. Andrew Capener (Drew, as we all call him) is a graphic designer by day and an indie-folk musician for the rest of the time. Elise (his wife) and I were playing Words with Friends with our iPhones and Drew mentioned that he designed a Scrabble set and mentioned about the various copyright laws people breach when they try to modify or create new ways of playing Scrabble. I thought of this Scrabble set I reblogged months ago, but I didn't mention it during our conversation because we were going on about something else by then. So, I was just browsing around his website, checked out his Scrabble set, and wowowowowowowooooaahhhh it's THE Scrabble set I was raving about months ago!! My mind is blown, I'm not over it just yet. P.S. Elise is a photographer by profession. I love this couple so much.
