Belated 2014 Highlights

Had the opportunity to DOP a short film in Budapest, the city with which I fell in love too deep too quickly. Ruin pubs and wine by the river at night with breathtaking views. Learning about the Iron Clap after watching a Hungarian play. Lived in a cottage by the seaside with no wifi, data and reception, but 5 amazing girls and gin made up for it. Worst production but best crew bonding experience for 2.5 weeks in beautiful Northumberland. Climbed to the summit of the Skirrid Fawr in Abergavenny with filming kit and slipped countlessly on sheep poo. Never saw so much quantity and variety of poo in my life. Grew to love the countryside within a little over a week. Strutting down the runway next to the Top Gear racetrack in Dunsfold, watching jeeps get blown up and Talibans shooting blanks out of AK7s. First trainee job on a big production, and it’s Bollywood. Subsequent jobs on shorts, music videos, commercials and corporates came from the people I met in Wales and on the Bollywood film. Listing everything down makes me feel so much better about myself. This is nice to look back on whenever I feel down.

Being a Jack of all trades gets confusing sometimes, especially when you kind of have to decide what you want to do for a stable salary. It gets more depressing when you're caught in a Catch-22 situation. In my case, I need a visa to get a job, but I need a job offer to get a visa. I don't like making such decisions, but I have to, and it's not a nice feeling at all. Also, there are so many pages of rules and policy terms to read and I don't wait to read them off my computer screen because it hurts my eyes and head but it is ridiculously expensive to print all of that paperwork in school I wish I had a printer.

Covers In Whispers #4: Get Up Get Up Get Up - Barcelona I turn to this song whenever I feel lost, confused, melancholic, or general sadness. Sometimes I get right back up. Sometimes I spiral deeper till I hit rock bottom before I bounce back. Both works for me, but I prefer hitting rock bottom first. Conquering my inner demons gives me a strange sense of achievement. -- What is CIW?

Covers In Whispers #1: Matilda - Alt-J (∆) It's not my favourite from their album, but I have to admit that it's a pretty soothing track. Shortened the chorus a little. -- This is the first installation of a little experimental series I've decided to do impromptu. I've always enjoyed playing the guitar at night when it's quiet, and singing softly to myself, almost like a whisper. It's also way more enjoyable to cover a song without a camera pointing at me. CIW features casual/sloppy guitar-playing, soft vocals, falsettos, sometimes a little rant or thought, and it's probably best before bedtime. Enjoy! x
