andrewstarfield replied to your post: How did you get into comics and where do you actually find the ones you read?
oh wow pouncing on this anon ask but how long did it take you to read civil war? its like, intimidatingly long and i feel like so much is going over my head
it depends on how you want to read it
the main title is only seven issues, which doesn't take very long. but you won't get much of the background, etc, and if you don't already know the characters then they won't be explained to you. that was pretty much all i read the first time around, though. and casualties of war and the confession. and i mean, i managed it? but it was a bit confusing at times.
second time through was after reading new avengers vol 1 and iron man (the first 12 issues of vol 4). and young avengers. and i read heaps more of civil war the second time, i read the iron man and captain america and spider-man and new avengers comics set during it. and young avengers/runaways. and frontline. as well as rereading the main seven issues. and there's heaps of comics that i didn't read because i was being very avengersy about it, so no fantastic four etc.
but i mean, it's really up to you how much of it you want to read. i thought it was more meaningful having read at least new avengers before it, because it's like, the last golden day of peace to enjoy with ron and hermione.
you could very well read new avengers, then read the main seven issues and it would be less confusing. i'd throw in iron man as well, just because of personal taste and because it helps to remove some of the 'villain' paint if you read iron man vol 4 13 and 14 which are the civil war ones. and of course casualties of war and the confession, because i'm a shameless shipper.
it all really depends on which characters you're interested in.
anyway feel free to drop an ask if you're confused reading it and i'll try to explain what's going on/who that person is, if i can.
