D-Day, by Bryan Perrett. Unlike the other military stories in the series, this one is told from the POV of an officer, rather than a private. So it provides a different perspective of military life.
At the beginning of the story Andy comments on how his ancestor was a drummer during the Crimean War, but the point is not brought up again until the end of the historical note. I didn't make the connection with the last name that Andy Pope is descended from Michael Pope, whom we have met before.
