Jenn Wasner of Wye Oak has enthralled us with her various other projects, like Flock of Dimes, and her current role as a member of Bon Iver’s touring band. But what has the other half of Wye Oak been up to? Andy Stack has an ongoing solo project too, named Joyero. He unleashed his solo debut album Release The Dogs back in August, and now he’s followed it up with a fantastic tune off a split 7″ from Merge Records’ subscription service, Born Under A Good Sign. The tracks off the 7″ were originally out as vinyl-only releases, but to benefit Honor The Earth, a Native American environmental organization, Merge has unveiled digital versions of the songs. Evacuate is a gauzy psych pop and hazy indietronica song that Joyero wrote in North Carolina during a hurricane. It’s notched and restless, an enduring swathe of textured warbles and whirs with the spacey curls of Tame Impala and the glazed whiskers of Porches. Sharing the 7″ with Joyero is Washington, D.C.’s Gauche and their new song Body Count, which you can stream on Bandcamp, here. Evacuate is also available via Bandcamp, here.

Wye Oak Headline Music Hall of Williamsburg on Wednesday Night
Singer-guitarist Jenn Wasner and drummer-keyboardist Andy Stack have been making crowd-pleasing genre-spanning indie rock as Wye Oak for nearly a decade and a half, earning a reputation of a band as eager to record as they are to perform live. The Baltimore duo’s most recent studio album, The Louder I Call, the Faster It Runs (stream it here), arrived to some considerable acclaim on Merge Records about two years ago. “This is a hugely creative and wildly ambitious sixth record from Wye Oak, made up of apparently endless waves of sound and experimental slices of indie, folk and synth-pop, all anchored by Wasner’s fantastic, oscillating vocals,” raves the Skinny. “The Louder I Call, the Faster It Runs revels in keeping you off balance; it impresses, inspires and occasionally overwhelms, but it never outstays its welcome. A fantastic statement from an endlessly evolving band shouting louder than ever.” And the Line of Best Fit adds: “Wye Oak’s forward-thinking approach proves they’re miles ahead of their peers in more ways than one, and if they can keep on moving, things are likely to stay that way for some time.” After recently putting out three singles (stream them here), Wye Oak are back out on the road and play Music Hall of Williamsburg on Wednesday night. Don’t miss Chicago experimental two-piece Ohmme opening the show.
Wye Oak’s new single “Walk Soft” is out today! Listen to it now on digital services. https://smarturl.it/WalkSoft
The band have also release a mini-doc about the band’s history and how their upcoming tour will be unlike anything they’ve done before. Watch it ⬆︎
